Except last I checked, they're not banning RMT over their so-called illegal credit card activity.

And by that I mean, maybe they are, but they're hitting WAY too many legitimate players in the process, with no means to appeal. If they're going to ban people with no appeals process, they'd better make sure they get the right people.

I'm sorry, I can't believe how many people just laugh this off like it's a joke. It's not a joke that people whose accounts have done nothing wrong have gotten banned. Changing credit cards to pay for a recurring service is not illegal, unless the cards are stolen.

Yeah, I totally went and stole a credit card from someone else with my same exact name to pay for my FF accounts. Totally.

You people aren't getting this at all. The gardening bans were hella stupid but this shit is not even right. I can see where the gardening accounts may have looked a lot like RMT, and possibly caught in some automated system. Changing my credit card from one with my name on it to another with my name on it doesn't seem suspicious to me at all.

I'm sorry, not even close to the same thing. They do need to be accountable for this bullshit, banning of accounts which literally have done absolutely no wrong.

You really think all those people that play 1-3 hours a week would give a damn? Casual players make up 85% of the FFXI population. Even if you got EVERYONE ELSE, 15% of players in protest really isn't going to get things changed on a scale you want.

I'd be willing to bet that these people that play "1-3 hours a week" are actually mules. You cant get a god damn thing done in this game playing 1-3 hours a week.

They've made billing damn near impossible. If you got overcharged, you'd call SE and they'd say the charges were legit, yet if you called your bank to charge it back, you'd get banned by SE. This is absolutely terrible customer service, and it has nothing do with their representatives, either, although I'm not even going to go there.

It was definitely in good taste to have made a topic like that on Alla (especially when it came from Elmer, someone who knows what he's been talking about for years now), but the entire thing gets fucked when people bring their own personal FFXI problems into it in the discussion section right after such an enlightening post. I don't think anyone will take that topic seriously after reading some of those replies-- maybe ZAM should practice locking their major public announcements from being able to reply to them.

Also this directly to Theytak: I think its cool to try and hop forum to forum to try and get the fire started to spread the word about unjustified bannings, but I do hope you're not that guy who's trying to start a crusade now, only to turn around later and be like "Oh hey, I got that shit started, I'm awesome" later; no one likes an attention whore.

I agree with this, some of the responses made me facepalm, especially the ones that had nothing to do with the bannings themselves, but only someone's mediocre experiences in the game. That shit is for another topic, and aren't there plenty of them already?

yea, because SE's really gonna notice 40-50 people quitting when they've claimed to have over 2 million players, and there are always more people joining.

The whole "stop giving them money" mentality is fruitless. It won't get us anywhere, and it won't teach SE that this shit is not tolerable. There are way to many people who enjoy playing the game for various reasons(I play for my friends in game. They're amazing, and totally worth the monthly fee to be able to do shit with them) for this "quit playing, that'll show 'em" bull shit to work.

All good then coming from me. Idiocy is everywhere however, esp on each and every FFXI forum. Even if it's a failed attempt, you'll touch a few people and they will use this as a point of reference in the future.

I personally believe that on a whole the playerbase coming from forums aren't ready for such a crusade. That or others won't be so bold to talk as loudly as you are since SE has made it pretty clear they won't acknowledge your existence any longer than to take your monthly fees. Rather than post on forums a better idea would be to try and move this type of discussion to where you actually DO get a chance to speak out... namely NA Fanfest (if there is even another to be had). Slim chance there as well, but a chance none the less, and since it's public SE definitely has to do something about it.

Hardly. The reason no one bothers to support stuff like this is because they know there's absolutely no point. SE would sooner blow up their own headquarters than amend their use agreement, apparently - why waste the effort and delicious salty tears?
