Nobuo Uematsu, Naoshi Mizua and Kuni Tanioka composed the score for the core FF game. I believe he was the one who invited the othr 2 t score with him, not unlike how he invited Junya Nakano and Masashi Hamauzu to do X. But his contribution in FFXI was quite minimal. But a whole lot of cutscenes still use his music, because he handled pretty much all the emotional tracks
I suppose Uematsu got too busy later on, and Mizuta became the sole composer from Zilart onwards. The only exception to this is Distant Worlds.
