Am I the only one who noticed this line? I've never seen that in a maintenance notice before. What the HELL are they up to...Please note that we cannot replace items that are lost during the maintenance process.

Pretty sure that's been there, at least recently. I checked the past few maintenances in this section and that line was there.
ITT people who think they know how SEs servers and system are set up and they can do a better job.
Christ sake, stop the bitching about the maints. OMG FFXI IS DOWN TWO HOURS WHAT WILL I DO.
Consider it a break and do other shit, you know, like bathe, clean your filthy rooms/houses, or oh man, interact with people on the outside.
Would you rather they left shit broken? "Oh, but why cant they be right in the first place" Because it's impossible to test everything, and when you apply it to 20 servers and millions of people playing, shit doesnt go the way it's planned usually.
Fine, thousands of dwindling players.
I mean it might be 1.5-2m you could argue that is close enough for a pluralization, for serious

Pretty sure that's the reason for the maintenance.
Basically it's them saying "Sorry, but if you are retarded enough to attempt Dynamis, Einherjar, KS run, BS run, etc. you're shit out of luck and we will not compensate you for any of these things lost if you are doing them as maint. is about to begin." Orbs, lamps, glasses, items, etc.
This was announced before the Einherjar glitch. Unless there were other reports before but who knows. There's still things not working the same as before. Ixion still isn't the same. Cerberus was different yesterday for us as well. I really wish they'd announce why there is a maint at the same time they announce there is going to be one. Waiting til after it's over sucks.
Sometimes they tell us about known issues, but in the case of potential exploits, you usually won't hear about it until it's fixed. For example, SE did not tell us about the curry bun prices being too high (until it was fixed), because more people would have taken advantage of that.
They did tell us about things like the glitches in these threads:
http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/78718...-jul-22-a.html
http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/78992...-jul-27-a.html
Also, sometimes an issue doesn't sound like a potential exploit, but SE plays it safe. For example, the einherjar boss thing sounds pretty random, but if people figured out how to do it on purpose they could set up "mule groups" to go on fake runs so that the real group can beat tier 3 runs with no boss.
Except they come back online at a not-so-fucking-over european prime time, even if you happen(ed) to play on US servers. (Which many EU did due to the game launching months earlier). Add to that it meant a reset of the raid instances, giving you something to do again the moment servers were done with maint.
SE's game management always reminded me of this...

Anyone have a glitch where their Play button isn't greyed out?
Good and grey here, sorry!
