Since I still have a thing for symphonic rock most of the music I listen to outside of soundtracks would be in the form of older American stuff or European bands.


The trend of singers however that's becoming a popular sensation depresses me. These people don't know how to sing, much less know what they're singing about ~ assuming you can actually understand the words without a translator or removing the music anyway.

When I was a kid in the '90s, I swore to myself that I'd never be like my parents and complain how crappy current music is in comparison to what I grew up with.

Then the 2000s rolled around and brought a torrent of utter garbage with them. Now I'm an angry guy in my mid 20s saying the same damn thing my parents said. There's the occasional song here and there I like, but so much is abysmal.

I miss the variety of the last decade, everything sounds the same to me now.

And no one needs a cell phone before they have a car, unless they have some sort of extracurricular activity that has an unpredictable timetable.

I liked the band and the music, but it wasn't the be-all end-all of everything, and all that was wonderful in the world didn't die along with him.

Cobain was a good musician but I don't understand why people idolize him. There have been and are many other musicians with much more talent.

Regardless, I do agree that the majority of music these days blows dick.

For the record, when I have kids, they're not getting a cell phone until they have a driver's license unless they shit out the cash to pay for it themselves.

More than overplayed, they didn't really have anything special. All of it was rather simplistic, and it was very popular, that doesn't make it good.

You're correct, I don't really like AC/DC either. My point is not that they were the only simplistic band, but they didn't deserve they acclaim they to this day receive. For being hailed as one of the original grunge bands, they sure as hell were filled with pop sensibilities. Simplistic, repeating chords, catchy chorus's and little to no variation throughout songs.
