Surrrrre they won't. Never heard that one before. For the record, when I have kids, they're not getting a cell phone until they have a driver's license unless they shit out the cash to pay for it themselves.

tshirthell.com had a better version of this years ago but no longer makes it. Can't find a pic of it either.
There is no "important" rock band currently playing. You name me a band that is actually worth listening to.
God, this is like the third oldest fucking argument in the world, right behind Religion and Politics, and right ahead of land wars in asia and going in against a sicilian when death is on the line.
hey kids, it's that time again

what in the i dont even..
Ignoring the fact that there is virtually no evidence that Nirvana was important, there is Porcupine Tree, Coheed and Cambria, Opeth, Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Pain of Salvation, Protest the Hero, Between the Buried and Me, Disturbed, Nightwish, A Perfect Circle, Epica, just to name a few.
Oh, and if you're going to say that Nirvana was a main influence on a lot of stuff to follow, what about Alice in Chains, Soundgarden or Pearl Jam? And if Nirvana was so influential, why does music today suck by your standards?
All forms of music sucks. That's why being deaf is so great.
While I will say that early Avenged Sevenfold stuff wasn't good at all, but in their last two albums they have shown substantial growth, and that they have a rather deep talent base that keeps growing as they progress as a band.
Also, while Protest the Hero and Between the Buried and don't always put out the best stuff, they have some moments that are quite spectacular. Have you even listened to Selkies by BTBAM? Really, really good song, and very melodic.
For that matter, ever listen to Epica? Again, not always the greatest, but their Classical Conspiracy album is phenomenal. I'm not saying these are all great bands, but they defiantly do have their moments, and are representative of a lot of the growth of current rock music.
If the ratio of good to terrible bands were as bad as Tool's, then yes. This, however, is not the case. A look at Roadrunner's roster in the mid to late nineties should be more than enough to understand why.
Also: Don't try to make any argument comparing Tool to the Beatles or Led Zeppelin. The comparison is not reasonable.
Can we attempt to accurately quantify these ratios? Lists please.
.. so as to properly assign an explicit value at which a worse band is not worthy of being labeled as contributing well to music, of course.
Well, for one thing, we'd finally started to get somewhere with the terrible guitar players getting the fuck out of popular metal (grunge and punk took them in), then we see Tool gaining popularity and what happens? Shit like Project 86, Coal Chamber, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, idk take a time machine back and see what was popular in the scene then that has fallen through the cracks since then and I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that Tool's shitty guitar playing told them they don't need to actually like, try spending more than two weeks learning.
Edit: Listen, all I'm saying is that I'd rather listen to a shitty Van Halen copycat than a shitty Tool copycat, and the last 15 years or so has seen a lot of them.
You sound sufficiently capable and motivated.. and look, you've already got yourself started.
It all depends on taste. I like The Devil Wears Prada, The Number 12 Looks Like You, 30 Seconds To Mars. So this whole conversation/debate is useless no one will ever agree on whom is good and whom is bad.
