    Update 6/8/09
Only a few spots left for Foundation Members,
I am truly grateful for the support shown by players transferring servers to support the ANZACs cause. Please note, the linkshell is now beginning to fill up its foundation member positions, please post your applications as soon as possible, as now they positions are limited, and the minimum requirements will rise very soon.

    Update: 21/09/09
Currently the Linkshell has 25 unique members, however we are still looking for more! If you play FFXI in JP prime time and are looking for an English speaking Linkshell please consider us! Players with good play times will be accepted without question (people who can usually play everyday)

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Cheers.

Newbie (Sort of) in NZ - Questions

Hey there - I came across this forum and your post while googling... hope it's ok to ask you guys some questions. I am originally from the U.S. (married a kiwi) -- I played FFXI in its earlier days, when it was only up to COP, would like to come back in and see how its grown.

I live in NZ now, bought a U.S. copy of Vanadiel Collection up to TAU (haven't installed it yet) - and have to make an entirely new POL account. How do you sign up, if it's with a NZ credit card and address??

Second - I'm a bit worried about lack of english speaking players. Any suggestions on a server?

Third - I work and have been part of a mature WOW casual guild - playing nights and weekends to relax. often just solo/chatting - is FFXI a bit more friendly to casual players these days? (I like doing dungeons/raids but only on a weekend...)

That's all for now, would really appreciate advice!

    Cheers from NZ

The biggest problem I see you haveing is that they have this verified card only bullshit. None of our banks as far as I know support this, which causes problems when useing a US copy in NZ. A work around might be getting an Euro copy, im not sure if those cards need to be verified, (note that FFXI wasnt officially released in NZ till the Euro version came out at time of Cop).

If you are playing in NZ times I think most servers will prolley have a small english speaking community at that time, but it can be hard to get shit done, you log on as NA going to bed and b4 Jp start lol .

You can find pockets of English players in all servers if you look hard enough.

Not everyone likes to trawl forums, much less post in them, but there have been a few publicised linkshells with prime-times that fall around AU/JP/NZ time:

Odin - SolarisDream (I've heard Odin is closed though...)

Leviathan - ShadowRavenloft (social/events linkshell; holds most major events on weekends or euro prime-time; link to the forums is in my sig)

Garuda - ANZACs (HNM linkshells tend to have high commitment requirements though, may not be appropriate for casual gamers)

I'm sure there linkshells on other servers. If you have lots of time to kill, you might want to try browsing through FFXI Auction House (might have to Google it, I can't post links). Lots of linkshells you can browse through in there and some people have filled in where they come from.

Lots of people would disagree, but I think FFXI has become a lot more casual/lowman/solo-friendly compared to two/three years ago.

While "old"/well established events (e.g. Dynamis, Sky, Sea, HNM hunting, Limbus) still have pre-requisites and commitments that require stupid amounts of time and people, some of the newer events take around 30 minutes - 2 hours to complete and have less requirements (e.g. Assaults/Nyzul Isle Investigation, Salvage, Campaigns, MMM, Field of Valour).

It all depends on your expectations and you who end up spending your adventuring time with.

Just had a look into this 'verified' card thing, Flic - and seeing a lot of confusion and conflicting statements. I'm installing POL now so I guess will have to see if I'm able to even play at all. lol

Lenor - your linkshell looks great, there is one other I came across on another server 'Cake' .. surprised there are LS's out there with that many people (mature ones to boot!)...

Anyway, will wait and see if my card is "worthy" otherwise this is all redundant.

    Thanks to you both..

    quick update and question

Wow. I think SE hates the U.S. ... lol

I previously had amazingly daft problems involving Playonline, which is part of the reason I hadn't come back sooner - was hoping it changed but...eh... I love the game, so I'm back, trying again...

And yes card won't work with this verified thing - so I'm attempting to download the European version 14 day trial. ... Anyway, hoping this will work.

This might be a dumb question but just to verify - even if I'm playing the EU version, the servers are still all the same/shared, correct?

    Thanks again.

yeah, all versions all servers, there is actually a few kiwis on levi, but mainly in other shells, we dont have a kiwi shell as such but shadowravenloft might be worth looking into.
Good luck with everything, I think with the addition of alot of lower man stuff plus if nothing happening theres always campaign certainly can get stuff done in our time zone.
