Firefox/MSN Messenger not saving logins

Awhile ago, I posted that my MSN Messenger wasn't saving the logins. I didn't get a reply to it, so I didn't delve too much further into it. Now, it seems that the issue has spread to my Firefox.

When MSN Messenger wasn't storing them, I upgraded it to the newest version and had the same issues. Firefox was saving them up until recently, then just randomly started not saving them. I upgraded to its newest version, hoping that would fix it. It didn't.

I checked my Firefox settings, it's not set to clear out everything when I close out, it's told to save cookies, but it still won't do it. I make sure I check the "Remember Me" box on the sites I want to stay logged into, but it doesn't work.

Anyone know anything I can try?

Do you have another program (like a spyware cleaner or the like) thats cleaning up your computer and/or preventing cookies from being saved to it? If the settings are correct, I don't see why it wouldn't save. Only thing I can think of is that some other program/setting is removing them or preventing them from being saved. The MSN thing is odd, I'm not sure how it stores logons but I doubt its via cookies or temporary files, so hmm. Curious.

Only thing I can think of that might be deleting cookies is AVG, but it only runs once a day, and Firefox is clearing them out every time I close all the windows.

That's not going to give us much help. Post a picture of your about:config with the filter of 'cookie' applied.

Even with my glasses on I can't even begin to read that.



Edit: I say that because I can't compare yours with mine, your picture seems to have more options on it than mine does so trying to compare the two doesn't work either.

Hmmm, maybe look into seeing if NoScript is messing with the cookies? Only thing I can imagine it being at the moment; if the problem is in fact related to them. Of course, since this was occurring for you originally in MSN, I dunno. Hell, the two probably aren't even related, but meh, not sure how MSN is setup. Maybe someone with more experience in the software side can help, but unfortunately I don't really know as much in that field as with the hardware.

I don't know if it's of any concern, but I just remembered something.

Between the last time it worked and the first time it stopped working right, I opened up my laptop to get some dust out. I don't think that's an issue at all, more of a strange coincidence, but figured I might mention it.

I'm fairly certain one could say with reasonable certainty that that would not have caused or affected adversely the situation you now find yourself in.

I'm in the same boat as you, and after reading about it awhile ago, there was a temporary fix for it that involved entering a URL to force FF to remember cookies/passwords/etc for sites.

I didn't bother doing it because it seemed like too much of a hassle, and I still haven't found a way for Firefox to ever remember my login details for many websites, and it never offers to save passwords even though the option is selected.

You guys might want to try googling "SFC /SCANNOW", it could fix your problem but I really don't know. that's fixed some extremely odd issues before and the command is largely unknown. I'd wager it's possible it'd mess up some windows updates, but it's not like you can't just redownload them. I mostly say that because I have no real experience with it other than once. It's basically like reinstalling windows without reinstalling windows.

Remember your logins, especially admin, and you'll need your copy of the windows disc you originally installed with.

Maybe someone else can tell you more, but again I don't really know much about this.

It's also possible updating/reinstalling internet explorer might fix it since MSN is heavily integrated with that POS, but why firefox would break I don't know.

Sorry to bump, but since someone else said they had issues, I found something that worked for me for the Firefox issue. I'm still working on the thing mentioned above to try to fix the MSN issue.

You need to go to your profile folder (You can find out how to do this with your OS here.), make a backup of the files that have the word "cookie" in it, then delete them, and restart Firefox.

From what I understand, what happens is that sometimes these files can get corrupted.
