A lot of clothing retail stores have the same kind of policy. I used to work at American Eagle and they told us to never go chasing a robber and how it was against policy rules, endangers others/yourself, not worth it, etc.

Banks don't lose anything from a "successful" robbery, the money is insured by the government. The only thing they stand to lose is their employees/customers getting shot(with potential lawsuits following), which is why this kind of thing is retarded and against policy.

    Insurance policies thrive on this.

Hypothetically, the robber is a pansy and nothing will happen and the bank will not have lost any money because it's Federally insured..

Hypothetically, the robber is a psychopath and will shoot anyone that gives pursuit, costing the bank millions in lawsuits and settlements.

This. They told us at Aeropostale not to chase shoplifters or else will get in serious trouble like hours cut or being fired.

when I was a bank teller they gave us many meetings saying "don't be a hero" like said above, it could be worse to do that and get innocent people shot.

tbh if you rob a bank more often or not they only get away with a few thousand (yes a lot, but not much to most major banks, they usually lose way more money off of check fraud).

The most they ever want a teller to do is get the dye pack in. Other than that, they really try to encourage you to follow the robbers' demands.

tbh a huge portion of the people that rob banks, get caught eventually anyways.

    yeah

i got fired from circuit city because i chased and restrained a 15-16 year old kid, who stole an ipod when i was at the register. they dont have the insurance to cover me in case the kid had a gun and shot me or something like that. which was why they had to terminate me. i was pretty pissed. that kid ran fast and i got fired for saving the company some money.

edit: this was like 5 years ago, so it might have changed lol

victoria secret has to accept fake bills too.

I guess once an employer wouldn't take this woman's 20$ bill because it didn't pass the ink test or something.

Woman sued them for embarrassing her cause the bill was real.

So they tell the employers to just take them.

it's funny too cause most of that money is usually pretty obvious

So what do you want people to do when said psychopath intended to shoot people anyway? Line Up?

Alot of society seems to just want to roll over when it comes to crime, hence why more criminals roll around our streets with impunity.

they've done enough studies to show that by a huge portion, there is no shooting involved if the robber gets what he wants.

think logically. as I stated banks lose WAY more money off of check fraud. The people who usually rob banks, are people who are panicked over losing money recently, and it's usually a one time deal (not always but usually). these are not usually "professional" anything.

most of the people don't actually have guns, they just say they do. The ones that DO have guns, most have no intention of using them, they just want to scare people into getting what they want.

if people comply, then no one gets shot. if people try to act like a hero, the robber will usually shoot out of fear.

bank tellers, people who work in retail or basically any customer service job, dont want there job, and dont give a fuck about there company (unless theyre brown nosing pussy fags who want to make a career out of it)

where i work ive seen people steal tons of shit, i walk straight by em. what the hell do i care when my store makes like £500'000 profit a week. They actually do encourage us too put attention on shop lifters, directly, or indirectly, i dont get paid enough to get a knife/needle or whatever pulled on my ass.

Exactly, if your life is potentially worth less then whatever the person was going to steal, you're a failure anyway.

The guy that said go work as a higher up and it will make more sense, basically hit the nail on the head.

Until you start working in corporate or legal positions, most people dont fully understand that for most companies the potential damages incurred by allowing normal employees to pursue robbers/shoplifters/etc., far outweighs any potential benefit.

On the topic of bank robberies - my old roommate was a senior teller at bank of america and he told me that banks get robbed more often than you may think, and there's a slight chance it has happened while you were there but you never noticed. He said that most people who rob banks now, will stand in line like any other customer, but when they get up to the teller they will say hi and hand the teller a note. The note says something along the lines of "I have a gun give me all the money in your drawer. Don't make a scene." Obviously the vast majority of tellers will be smart and do just that. The robber then just walks quietly out. Obviously the police and everything are called after that, but its nothing like the crazy bank robberies you see in the movies.

Every place has a policy of not attacking shoplifters. The ONLY one who's got the okey to do so is the Loss Prevention officer or the guard. If you go after a shoplifter, you will be fired. The only way this guy could have not been fired is if the robber had already shot or injured someone, at which point you can truthfully claim that all bets are off and defend yourself.

This is why it's better to work for yourself with 1-2 other employees and make sure you all have guns. The moment the guy holds up the counter, shoot first. And remember, you shoot to kill, if your shooting to wound, your putting yourself in danger.
