    Getting 1/mbps on Comcast

Yeah, simple solution is ditch Comcast.

PC is only getting 1/mbps. Laptop is getting 54.

Leaving the router/modem off overnight fixed it for a few hours.

Did usual power cycles including resetting the router.

Tried a different adapter with no luck.

Would like to call Cockcast as a last resort since all the techs are idiots and won't admit there is a problem on their side. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks.

Edit: Just changed the monitor I was using(Linksys) and I'm back at 54/mbps(Windows Zero Configuration Wireless) Can software really have such a big impact on connection(assuming this is the problem)?

physically speaking- i never have managed to hit those amazingly blazing speeds for the net-

just using a comcast-box i'm sure doesn't help. That, mixed with a worst-purchase (best buy) router i'm sure also might slow it down.

I'm curious though, 54 mbps really? shit the best i've ever gotten was 1.5MB/sec on any single download.

Box is newer from Comcast(not sure if it's refurbished or new) when we upgraded to triple play. 54 mbps is what I get on the laptop on the internet and wireless icons. But even if the speed isn't causing me to d/c something is, cause I can barely stay connected.

54mbps is the standard for wireless internet connection, everyone has that "speed". Unfortunately that's not the real speed you get out of your connection.

Ah, I see. Any suggestions on why I keep getting disconnected then? Router seems fine and is pretty new but don't want to completely exclude it as the problem.

Pretty sure an actual 54mbps connection would let you download at 6,750 kb/s

Not really sure, I've never had it as a problem. Vista used to crash mine all the time, and every now and then Charter internet decides to suck so then we lose internet for a long time. But never frequent DC's.

from past experience, frequent dc's can happen as a result of a faulty amplifier (for comcast hi-speed users in apartments.) I used to dc every 15 minutes like clockwork. Now it's random.

I'm in a town house. Could faulty wiring/splitters cause a problem?

Are the splitters buyable? If so, any idea how much they would run for? Personally I think all the techs are retards and would rather not deal with them. I had one guy connect me to Dell blaming my computers for the internet trouble.

This is correct. When it comes to measuring speeds, it's usually measured in "bits" (54mbps). To get the byte rate, just divide that by 8. (54/8=6.75MBps.).

I was ballparking, but you're right I was way off anyway, 54mbps is 5400 KB/sec by rough conversion. I dropped a zero

the speed you are looking at is your LAN speed, it has nothing to do with your comcast connection.

Are you sure your PC isnt running @ 1.0 Gbps? I believe laptop wireless cards cap @ 54.0 Mbps, while a ethernet adapter is currently a 1.0 Gbps maximum (if your router/switches support gigabit speed)
