I think at this point I'd rather have enough money to never work again than an actual job

It's kinda dominating right now, honestly. Got a new bachelor pad (first time living alone, enjoying it so far), just went to the studio taping of the first episode of the show I'm working on, it went really well, dating two girls, both of whom are cool as hell - I'm mad busy, but I feel...great.

Trying to predict where it's going even a year down the road is kinda foolish, given how quickly everything changes all the time, but I like where I'm at right now at least.

No, I'm editing and assistant editing on TV shows. Also, you don't need a high school diploma for most jobs in entertainment. If you can write, you can write. School can help you learn how to write better (some schools have specific screenwriting majors) that can be valuable, but no one is going to hire you because of your degree.

If you want to be a writer, there is one thing to do - write. All the time. Write everything that comes across your mind. Keep files of half-formed ideas written as far as you can take them. Write when you don't feel like writing, write when you have writers block, write write write.

A good friend of mine from grad film school is doing the writer thing. He's somewhat talented, sure - but the reason I think he will have success is because he is able to check his ego and just fucking write. He can write a feature in a few weeks if he's under the gun. He doesn't get so precious with his own bullshit that he only writes when he's "in the mood", he gladly shows his half-written works to his friends for constant feedback, and he will write something he doesn't even really like for 10 hours a day just because.

If you want to be a writer, that's what you should be doing. In fact, there is no "want to be a writer" - you're either writing or you're not. If you're writing, you're a writer. It's about the work, not inspiration, not mood, and definitely not a degree. You put in the work.

I'm not a writer. I have some talent at it, but I don't do it, so I don't pretend like I have what it takes. Writing is brutal, but some people love it. I love it when I'm inspired, but that's a load of crap. Real writers do it regardless.

There's my writer talk. Real talk.
