My ex's grandfather holds (well, he's dead, but apparently no one has beat his record yet) the record for most years of service in the Naval Air Reserves. By all intents he (my ex that is, not Poppy -- that guy ruled) shouldn't be a douche because he's from some sort of legacy too, but he's still a fucking fgt.

I guess it depends though. I bet your grandad is/was a badass though. I fucking LOVE hanging out with old veterans. They're amazing.

Papa (Grandfather) joined as an E1, got out 3 years later... as an E1.

Pops (Father) joined as and E3, got out 4 years later... as an E1.

I decided to not get my ass in trouble (though I had a few really close calls) and acutally got out above E3.

It's fun to sit down and tell stories and hear how much the Navy changed in the span of 50 years.

My grandaddy got out of the Navy after one tour -- he was a chef. I have this awesome picture of him carrying a big barrel of potatoes by himself, with his like HUGE WTF BULGING arm muscles and his cool chef hat. My grandpa, on the other hand, was an army man: helicopter pilot, vietnam vet, when he retired he was in charge of training new army air traffic controllers and that sort of shit, he was a big boss -- retired as a Lt. Col. My great uncle Modesto was in the Navy as well, and I never EVER get tired of his company. All of them tell some amazing stories. It's unbelievable, the change in the caliber of people they are taking these days, compared to back then. Back then a military man was a safe bet that he was a good man. Nowadays it's almost a safe bet he isn't.

Such truth... And it's only gotten worse. Some of the dirtbags that were coming to my Squadron as I was getting out made me happy as hell to be going home.
