    Computer Monitor Request

Ok, here are the specs I am looking for:

    1. Samsung
    2. 1-2 HDMI ports
    3. DVI port
    4. 22" preferably because my current one is 22"
    5. 2ms response time

GO GO GO ! I did a bit of my own research on their site, but I can't find anything with these specs

    Thanks guys / gals,

    Welt

Might want to add this one which bugs me about my current LG monitor:

    6. Supports 1:1 pixel scaling.

My monitor is 16:10, so when I use it on my PS3 it stretches the screen vertically 120 pixels since it runs 16:9 at 1080p, and I got no means of fixing that.

Personally I'd go for a 24" minimum given the price difference of 22/24 these days.

My current monitor (22") and TV (46") are Samsung. I have never had problems with either of them, and I am pretty brand loyal once I find a brand I like.

Price does not really matter if it meets the specs.

    Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Monitors,LCD Monitors,SAMSUNG,22"

These are all the 22in Samsungs on newegg. Since I assume you're going to be using this for your PS3, I'd go larger than 22in in order to get full 1080p.

    My suggestion: Newegg.com - Hanns·G HH-251HPB Black 24.6" 2ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 15000:1(800:1) Built-in Speakers - LCD Monitors

Yes, I will be using it for my PS3 so I would need built in sound if at all possible.

Sure, make it larger if I can get 1080p out of it.

    But, please stick to Samsung

    Thanks again Alishe.

Hmm, I think all samsungs are going to be 16:10 ratio (1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080) giving you the above problem mentioned by Kaisha. I only see two monitors on newegg

    Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Monitors,LCD Monitors,SAMSUNG,1920 x 1200

See if you like either of those.

I was going to suggest getting a TV, but I am betting you want to use this as a dual setup on your PC when not playing PS3. It's still possible to do that with a TV too though. You'll also get a lot better built in sound from a TV, very few monitors have built in sound (I don't think any Samsungs do) and when they do have it, it's awful.

Here's a list of Samsung LCD 1080p TVs, the cheapest is 727$ sports 1080p and 32in.

I would like to steer clear of the TVs. I just have a hard time matching the 2ms with the HDMI 1080P capabilities....orz

Is this what I am looking for?

Amazon.com: Samsung 2333SW 23-Inch Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor: Electronics

Will the "1920 x 1080 Full HD Resolution" stretch if I play Ps3 on it?

That looks like exactly what you're looking for. 1920x1080 is what you want, that's 16:9 and what PS3 displays. That looks like a steal, I hardly use anything other than Newegg when shopping (so didn't see this one on amazon), I guess I am like you with your Samsung tvs lol.

You're going to need to hook the PS3 up to external speakers. Is it just me or does amazon not list the types on inputs the monitor has? Wondering if it has an Audio out, would only have this if it has HDMI in.

Found it on Samsung's website, it has DVI. I couldn't find it on Amazon, probably just me though sure it's listed somewhere I am just missing it.

For sound you're going to have to get that from either your optical digital or your composite cables. I don't know the exact name of the adapter you need but it will plug your red and white composite cables into it then you plug your speakers into the other side, I have one in the house somewhere.

If it has built in sound, why won't the HDMI ports work?

Edit - If that didn't work, couldn't I just hook up the video to HDMI and the sound to the Red/White component cables?

Here is a pic of the back:

The monitor you picked out doesn't appear to have HDMI inputs or built in sound. So you'd have to use an HDMI to DVI cable for video and use your composite cables for sound.

Also, built in speakers on PC monitors is often 2watt speakers that are next to useless.

Look at this picture of the back of it:

It also has a 2nd HDMI in on the side.

    I'm confused now lol

That is an insanely nice looking monitor, I'd really like to build a new desktop for my girlfriend with that one. Looks like you're going to be playing PS3 in style

Damn, monitor's are becoming more and more like HDTVs every day........except always sharper looking thanks to the lower PPI.

At this rate it'll be a couple more years before we see a coaxial, 3 sets of component, 2 composite, 4x hdmi ports, optical, s-video, scart being standard on upper-end models.

You won't get decent speakers even on a $2k HDTV.
