The gameplay of Infinite Undiscovery is very bland, don't even pretend that it's exciting, or innovative.

Shits all over turn based systems, that is not "sub-par".

It's a half-assed version of the Star Ocean 3 battle system.

Lol.

And don't even get me started about trying to find all the sidequests in towns and getting all the extra scenes by figuring out who to connect to and talk to who.

A few slightly hidden sidequests, oh God no. Most of them didn't require connecting with anyone at all and half the ones that did were glaringly obvious, like connecting to Rico to talk to animals.

Does anyone remember wanting nothing more than to get out of Midgard in FF7? I do. But yeah, great game.

The whole Midgard section of FF7 is amazing. Even on multiple playthroughs I always enjoy the whole thing! There's a big difference between a story picking up after a few hours or being absolutely awful for the first few hours (hi Kingdom Hearts 2). Lost Odyssey's start was good despite being a little slow. I found the game very tedious by the end though, I never did finish it just because it's so God awful slow at the start of disc 4 and the battle system bored me to tears by that point.

Null if you haven't already tried Uncharted: Drake's Fortune I recommend it. The story and character voice acting are done so well in that game it kind of just pulls you in. If you haven't played it yet, the best part will be by the time you beat the game the new Uncharted will be right around the corner.

Mass Effect is a great suggestion.

Most people seem to hate Crisis Core, but I thought it was great. I would highly suggest you play it on Hard mode from the get go if you do get around to it, most people complain about the game being purely "spam X", but you will get your ass kicked if you attempt to do that on Hard mode, it made the game alot of fun having to constantly be dodging things. Fantastic music, assuming you liked FF7 you should enjoy all of the story.

Tales series (stand alone games like FF for the most part, there is a few sequels and alot of the games have cameos of older characters) is great, Vesperia on the 360 is fantastic. Decent story, amazing music, awesome gameplay, lots of content and the best protagonist ever.

I started re-playing FF7 on my psp after the speedgamers marathon... amazing what key parts of the story I have forgotten over the past 10 years. Worth a replay if you're up for it.

While I generally agree with you, it's stupid to say that he should not play Persona 3 and 4 and instead try and play 1 and 2, which are a sight more complicated to find. I say jump in with 3 and 4, you aren't missing anything even if Persona 2 (never played 1) is a good game.

Sorry, maybe I worded it in a wrong way. What I wanted to say those titles shouldn't be forgotten, even thought they are(as you said) hard to find now, or not as popular generally.

I'd suggest the Wild Arms series, and the Breath of Fire series.

Wild arms normally has a general western theme with lots of fantasy thrown in there. 1 through 3 had solid storyline and fun gameplay. All the dungeons throw some action puzzling into the mix. 2 and 3 have to be my favorite story-wise, as they have more meat to them than 1, and they feel like a more personal story. The music in these is also fantastic, Michiko Naruke composes some amazing stuff with an Ocarina.

Breath of Fire 3, 4, and 5 really shine in the story department to me. 1 and 2 are great old-school RPGs with just enough plot and character to enjoy the classic turn-based combat. 3, 4, and 5 though I highly recommend if you are looking for a great narrative. 3 is a coming of age philosophical story, 4 is told through two seperate main characters with a twist and a great eastern feel, and 5 just has this bleak atmosphere and an amazing replay system where more story gets revealed on each s
