There appears to be five selectable races so far, with one picture of a horned creature speculated to be a Gria-esque race
Surely people have realised by now that the CG picture of the 'horned race' is a hume wearing a hat with two feathers coming out of it >_> most likely the Gatherer class. As for the artwork, that could be anything. We should stick to facts in the OP rather then speculation.

Yeah. I bet it's just a Hume wearing a feathered cap or something. Wouldn't surprise me if all the races are just exactly the same. Galka missing a tail doesn't count.

As far as the actual stuff goes, I like the sounds of the class/job change on the fly thing, and the quest system. Will hold reservations on battle until we actually see the battle stuff.

LMAO, no I'm playing elf, again. It would just be nice to see something a little different from XI.

Personally, I think what you said would be somewhat of a logical leap from the info we have so far, which is why I asked if I missed something. I just really hope it isn't 'item has ability, equip and grind with it and get ability, rinse and repeat' though hopefully if they DID do that, it'd at least be interesting. I sure as hell hope they learned their lessons about time > reward and player angst in ffxi.

Everything sounds amazing to me thus far. I don't mind that from the looks of it, there won't be any new races but hopefully they make the game world and it's creatures unique cause it would really suck to see crabs/yagudos/beastmen/pugs/etc. Sick of all those mob families.

I actually hope it is a system sort of like this where weapons give you abilities(and your job) and different abilities have different AP (or w/e XIV's equal would be) requirements. This would make weapons much more than just new skin + higher stats. But hopefully it's nothing like FFXI's overall grind. I think they pretty much got that part though, which is why they are saying anyone can jump in and have fun/get something done within an hour or two.

Those...creepy tentacle/shelled things in the trailer looked pretty nice, though they have that overused glow/sheen on their carapaces, which happens to fit quite well in with the given scenery.

I'll just be glad to look up at the sky when it's stormy and not see pixel shaped blotches.

This would be ok as long as it's not something like EVE. In EVE all the abilities can be active at once pretty much (obviously there are exceptions, missile upgrades won't help you when using blasters, etc) and it makes it extremely difficult for new players to catch up. Also, there's no "goal" in this kind of system.

I wouldn't mind though if you unlocked abilities then had a certain amount of ability points to use up, kind of like the newer fire emblems. Then you could go out with say your warrior/tank ability build, then even if you're forced to switch to healer in an emergency your healer won't be as good as someone else who's built for that, because you only have your warrior/tank abilities set. This way you still keep class balance and all instead of having 1 person in your group just be the best at everything. Also it'd allow newer players to catch up way faster, because they could just set their sights on 1 specific build and get that just as good as anyone elses, even if they can't switch their build.

Well in EVE everything levels up passively right? even if you're offline. In XIV you'll need to have that job/weapon equipped to level it/grow it so not everyone will be the same.

I really hope there are no see-saw stats though. I absolutely hated that about FFXI. That is one of the things that would be a huge letdown for me.

Yeah they level up passively, but that's not the point I was trying to make. What I meant was, say you (passively) leveled up 10 different abilities over the course of a year. All 10 of these abilities are now active, and doing things for you. If a new player wants to catch up, they must get all 10 of these skills.

However, if you could only equip 5 of these abilities, then a new player could catch up in half as much time. You would have more variety, but he would still be competent in that one aspect.

Also, what do you mean seesaw stats?

Ooh right right I see what you mean. Well I doubt it will be like that because everyone will be a a god with every single ability in the game in a year's time. I'm sure they'll have some restrictions.

Seesaw stats as in, say you're fighting a rock golem and your str is going up but since that's going up your int goes down.

    str +5 int-2
    agi+3 str-1
    etc, etc.

They said they still weren't sure if they were going to use that system or not. I really hope they don't.

I wonder how they're going to do stat bonuses in this one haha. I guess just equipment and abilities? Seems so strange.

Race seems like it might be a bit more important if your starting stats don't change all that much o:

Yeah I guess we'll have to wait for much more detailed info or beta. I'm just glad they are trying something new. MMOs have been stale for years.

I'd imagine as you progress in skill towards x job or profession you gain stats and they change based on what job you swap in/out of and what combination you put together. Moreover the Armory System seems to be a prime way to customize yourself as you see fit, let's just hope that it doesn't go the way XI's SJ system did where people ended up going to 1-2 set paths. With the others having clear losses and absolutely no reason to do them.

Dont worry! If you start running out of space if you just spend this one time low low price of NOT $20.00 NOT $10.00 JUST $9.99 You can get this awesome keychain that protects your account from everyone but us! BUT WAIT, THERES MORE! Upon buying this item you will get an extra 10 inventory slots! Thats right! You will be better than all your friends!

(Note if you currently obtain a SE Keychain from FFXI you will need to cancel that SquareEnix ID and smash the keychain with a hammer before you can get one for FFXIV. If you smash the keychain with a hammer you will be banned.)

I hope to god inventory space isn't their "limiting factor," lol
