I'm used to idea of weapon degradation over time. It makes the game a bit more realistic, but hopefully not to the point it detracts from the game. I've played other MMOs and offline RPGs that require weapon repair after a certain number of uses. Oblivion is a good example, Diablo II is another. This MMO I've played, Mabinogi, has something called Weapon Endurance, and when it hits 1 the weapon is unusable.
This really looks like the game will truly focus on the weapons you use, and if everything centers around it then it makes sense for the weapons to degrade. For those that haven't played an RPG--offline or online-- with weapon degradation, it will take a bit of time to get used to. In some games, the better well-kept the weapon is, the better damage it will do and perform in the long run.
As for the in-game shots, all I can say is "goddamn!"
They're absolutely beautiful and beat my current favorite zone in FFXI-- Vunkerl Inlet. Tavnazian Peninsula is second and Grauberg is third. It gives me a very good excuse to upgrade my computer. XD
The more I'm reading about this game with the new info coming out, the more I'm interested in playing it. Most likely I'll be playing FFXIV during the slow periods in FFXI, or when I'm taking a break from it. Thank goodness the game will be more causal oriented so I can pick it up whenever I want to and leave off wherever I am.
weapon degradation would be tolerable if it doesn't literally destroy the item and if items could be repaired by like a crafter with the appropriate skill through a bazaar-type thing
and also if brokenness is a binary. gradual degradation like in Fallout 3 or TES 4 would be unbearable
regardless, it's never been a good idea in any MMO I've played and I've never played an MMO without it and thought "man, wouldn't it be awesome if I had to keep paying for this shit until the end of time or else it stops working?"
epic, we got more viewer in FF14 section than "the new advanced" lol
ehh weapon degradation would suck... you'd be wasting space to hold multiple weapons incase yours broke or something and an no longer hea/tank/dps >.>
They'll probably have it where you join some weapon "specialization" shop.. and you train that weapon , and that will be "your main" (or maybe a limit of mains) while you can still train other weapons, they won't be as powerful as your main.
This would keep the diversity of change on the go weaponry, while still making you unique from others in the form of "specialization"
/random idea
Omg those scans of the areas are hot, I'm still 50/50 about XIV so kinda sitting on the side lines for more info but I wont lie, it's hard not to let the XIV bug bite and take over. If SE does a overhaul on game problems and customer service...XIV could blow XI out of the water.
The scans with the areas are gorgeous. The fact that it looks like actual in game shots makes it all the sweeter. We need some HD shots and pronto.
I think there's a chance that they'll upload them to the site later. That's what game companies usually do after they do a Famitsu feature.
This is pretty much the MMO for me as I am 200% done with XI, and the other MMOs out right now don't interest me in the slightest. It will be a grueling wait till release/american beta.![]()
If you don't equip a weapon, are you classless or a Monk?
MINDFUCK.
So now that there's even MORE of an emphasis on gear in this game, and they are making it easy to carry lots of gear and switch it will we go from gear-swaps for abilities to complete JOB-SWAPS per ability?
I can't wait.
Environment looks beautiful. Can't say i'm liking a few ideas so far (level system, job system) but i'm sure it will turn out to be a great game
We don't know much about battle system yet but I'm sure SE wont create a lame battle system that's for sure
I just hope that they wont recreate the same LAME @HNM spawn system
They should make it a matter of only the skilled people can kill it instead of "It's all about getting the pull, the rest is a joke"
Harder HNMS require better players and since there is no "Levels" now i'm sure battle system will depend on skill way much more than FF11 afterall we know that the battle system will be deeper than FF11 since SE claim it's going to have so many real time elements
I'm pretty sure if they announce that FFXIV will have 24 hour repop HNMS system many people wont even bother with the game lol many people HATE FF11 endgame
Though I absolutely hated the HNM spawn system, I really liked XI's end game. Fighting gods and whatnot was incredibly fun (the first couple of times) but I'm hoping this time around they bring better rewards (a weapon that gives you a rare skill, for example) and a bigger challenge.
Sorry i said endgame~ i meant the HNMS endgame system
Of course many things they did were amazing like sky/limbus etc
SE then will keep those few people and lose the majority of people who have a life and wont waste it on camping the same HNM every day for 5 years lol
If they wanna create a popular MMORPG where friends tell each other "join it's fun" instead of "Run the hell away from it the HNM system sucked"
Yes there is other events etc but many people want to fight those big bosses and dragons for fun not just for the gear but FF11 didnt really give them a chance
