PS3 Limitations are definitely not going to be an issue until like 3-5 years after the game comes out. Thats for sure. Like I've said before, just pray they don't decide to release on the 360. It's limitations are starting to show.

Yep it's, PS3 was built for gaming, while intel cpu beat Cell in tasks that matter for PC desktop "Multi tasking-converting files-etc" PS3 Cpu "Cell" is built to process physics/graphic/Ai/etc
Yes many games on the ps3 pretty much suck tech wise but that is because most games are built on the xbox then ported to the PS3 without taking advantage of it's fast ram/strong cpu or even the blu ray insane storage space "If they did the game wont be possible on the xbox360 = stupid business move they should make games that both system can handle~"
Well name me anything that the ps2 limited FF11 with other than reused monsters/armors and bags? those are directly related with ram and servers couldn't handle more than 500 character or so at every area because of its weak power
Trust me on this one PS3 won't effect the PC version "unless" SE decide to drop FF14 engine and recreate new engine for enhanced graphic etc~
I miss the days when we actually had expansion slots on consoles so we could put in extra ram for specific games, so that it wasn't an absolutely limiting factor.
PS3 on screen limitation =

There is 10000 enemy on screen, you can engage and fight with any of them , each one have a different "Random" AI in a huge big open area and did i mention this was first game from the developers with no past experience whatsoever specially with ps3.
I'm sure that we will never see something this chaotic on FFXIV @PC limitation lol
fuckin' a man, i thought that was XIV at 1st![]()
Can't wait to play this HD-FFXI let's just hope they don't screw up again
Sorry just the talk of PS3 limitation for the FFXIV pc version made me go wth
This is ingame from killzone 2 , I'll take the PS3 limitation with open arms lol

And thats exactly what I meant.. As time goes on PC hardware advances while console hardware stays the same. When we get to the point where FFXIV's graphics aren't so amazing anymore (can you imagine that?) upgrading the graphics engine would be out of the question without dropping the PS3. Even small upgrades like what WoW did with its graphics in WoTLK would be out of the question. FFXI couldn't do this without dropping PS2 support which they refused to do.
But this isn't something we should be discussing now as this wont happen for a very long time.
I don't know much about this stuff, but is there a reason why PC users can't get things like graphics upgrades while PS2 users keep the same graphics?
Or, why couldn't they just make new gear have reused models on PS2/3 but then give PC players new models?![]()
Is there a difference between displaying NPC characters and PC characters? PCs can be "unpredictable" in their movements, whereas NPCs are dumb, the system knows what they will be doing. Though, I guess some processing power will be freed by not having to run AI.
Also, I'm sure many of those NPCs are identical. There's likely going to be a far far greater variety of character models up at once. As I've learned from LBP, it's easier to work with a lot of the same thing, than a lot of different things.
One thing I've always wondered, and lately even more so with Monster Hunter.
How exactly do online games handle showing where everyone is, and what/when they're doing it, in the right order, in a way you can react to it? Especially across the world.
(I play FFXI with someone literally on the other side of the planet, less than 10 degrees off my longitude. That blows my mind some days.)
The thing is no Developers have reached the true potential of the ps3 yet, so a graphic upgrade is not totally out of the question if it comes to it. I use to play Everquest online adventure on PS2 and SOE released a graphic upgrade patch to improve the graphics. It’s not impossible to do on consoles.
FFXI couldn't drop the PS2 version because the code and engine itself was built for PS2, a PC version is not possible unless they waste more years recreating the engine, the PC version you played is a port from the PS2 , PS2 was also the weakest console at it's time specially compared to the first xbox, but the PS3 is the most advanced peace of hardware right now. recreating an engine is not as easy as it seems for this Gen FFXIV engine toke 3 full years to be created "Same engine as FFXIII"
FFXIV is different the game is built to take advantage of the PC and PS3 separately, many games already do that where console version get low quality texture and low resolution while PC version get 1080p instead of 720p and extra AA with high quality texture plus directx10 effects instead of directx9, FFXIV is not built for on/for PS3 power it's built on super computer , it's not possible for the PS3 version to gimp the PC version.
by the time PS3 get old = it's time to recreate a new engine/game
Imagine FF11 now doing a new engine to enhance the graphic, that would be pointless why would they waste more time to recreate everything instead of creating FFXVIII online for example
#1 it does not matter if they are npcs or real player the problem is being able to display that many characters on screen most games can't in old consoles because they are not strong enough, the reason why most are the same is because the AI can not handle so many complicated things real players actually would make the process even easier since no AI is needed "Faster connection required though" it's all about net code and how the engine is made to support it
#2 Internet connection another reason why FFXI could not display everyone on screen because it was limited to the FREAKING 56KB connection rofl faster connections will get you to see more stuff but the game need to support it (FF11 did not) and the console/pc must be able to handle showing that many stuff, this just remind me why the hell did FFXI limit the game to 56KB? meh
What I think is.. since a base class branches out into 2 other possible classes, I could very see those classes progressing into a final class.
For example.. if the base class was MAGE and it branched out into WHM or BLM. Say I picked WHM, I could very see a similar model to that of FF3 of Nintendo DS and the higher class of WHM would be DEVOUT.
I remember a dev talking in response to limitations. They said when you think you have reached the limit you have really just run out of ideas. Artstyle can go a long way.
Hard as it may be to believe, but back in 2003(US) when this was released (and even more so as it was being developed earlier), broadband was nowhere near as common as it is now.
Hell, I was still using dial-up as late as 2006.
It was necessary for SE to be available to that market in order to increase it's sales.
Dial up.. *shudder* I was on that damned thing till early 03. Anyway, I was just looking over the Gamescom thing and it would make no sense for them to say they'll "show the game live" and then it ends up being a replay of the E3 teaser or something. I'm thinking we'll get some good footage/info from gamescom. I mean they're (S-E) doing the whole worldwide thing now, right? They have to keep us in the know too. Or at least I'm hoping that's what they're thinking, heh.
