I guess I'm one of the few that don't want voice acting? What does voice acting do anyway? You can typically read the text way faster than they can speak it in their slow, deliberate way. I'd end up skipping the dialogue to begin with, so I don't really care. I'm not getting a MMO to immerse myself completely in the story 100%. I'm getting it to play with friends, read things quickly for quests and move on.

Well we are not asking for full voice acting "every npc etc" just the main missions storyline, npcs at cities will use text only, you do not care about story in mmorpg but many people does for "FF" mmorpg

What does voice acting do? /cry
It matters for story cut scenes imagine movies with no voices only subtitles.

I have faith in Uematsu to set the mood right in cutscenes. Couldn't care less about voice acting as long as the music works. But if they do have some voice acting, it better not on par in quality with the laughing scene in FFX.

Okay. So you'd rather have putrid, emotionless, out of place voice acting for storyline NPCs instead of having to read the text yourself? Not asking "you" literally, but in a general sense. I know I wouldn't. Good voice acting with video games is a rare thing, and recent Square titles haven't screamed out 'excellent' voice acting.

I do care about the story, but not nearly as much in a MMO as it's fractured as I would on a regular RPG (FFXII, Star Ocean, etc).

And I didn't mean I didn't care about story because I skipped cutscenes. I do love story. I'm not going to skip the main storyline cutscenes, but I wouldn't want voice acting because other than it probably being horrible, I do read the text faster than they can speak it and I don't want to sit around and listen to horrid acting. D: If there is Voice Acting, I assume there would be an option to turn it off, so we'll just have to hope for that.

Star ocean 4 is from tri-ace not SE for people who complain about star ocean voice acting.

People who cares about cut scenes would love to have the option, people who don't want voice acting can always skip the whole thing or disable it and use subtitles.

I would be disappointed if there was no voice acting in FFXIV, for 2010 game this is not acceptable specially when games like oblivion can voice act every npc/mission/story in a world that was as big as vanadiel itself.
Yeah, voice acting is so easy that's why there's so much good voice acting. You can just get a group of random strangers off the street and have them voice act an entire game no problem. If you don't think it costs much, then feel free to hire some voice actors for FFXIV.

Seriously, it's time and money that SE don't need to waste in order to make a good game with an immersive story. Why spend all that time hiring, paying and implementing voice acting when you could do so much more without it?

Comparing MMOs to standard RPGs is a mistake. Oblivion could stand to have 100 unique enemies, NPCs, armours, towns, etc and it would be fine, but MMOs can't afford that luxury. Even with more space, palette swaps and reusing parts is just the smart thing to do, time and money wise.

Just because Oblivion can afford to voice every person in the world doesn't mean FFXIV can.

As for cost? It's fucking Square-Enix ffs.
So? You don't stay rich by wasting money on stupid shit. Especially when MMOs have the potential to rake in money. They'd be stupid to waste it on something they could easily do without.

FFXII voice acting was good too but the game itself sucked

So what? Most of the voice actors who work in the industry do all sorts of games for all sorts of companies. Hell, if the people from SO4 can find work again they might end up on some random FF title or something else.

    -----

Voice acting would be nice, but I don't think it's practical. Whether they do it or not is irrelevant to whether I think it's a good idea. You can get just as much, if not more emotion out of a scene with good music. Good voice acting can enhance that and make it great, but if it's bad you just end up destroying the scene by wanting to skip it.

The only voices I want to hear are the same kind I hear in XI.

Grunts and taunts are good enough for me. Although I expect my elvaan in 14 to say "Come on!" like he does in XI with every other swing. Fucking arrogant elvaans man.

#1 most people unlike you do not care about triple AAA 10/10 voice acting they want voice acting that does not "Suck" this is not hard for SE and they have already accomplished that with many games like FFXII for example, FFX was their first try it was not bad but it had flaws whether voice acting is good or bad the fact is voice acting does not cost much unlike what you said , in case you dont follow the news games cost around 50million $ these days for AAA games, voice acting is super cheap when you have a budget like this, it's the least of your worries money wise.

#2 do you work in SE office? you don't so don't bring this "voice acting is such waste of time and money for SE" if it were they wouldn't include it even in there DS low budget games, voice acting is important and the market demand it, you are in the minority.

#3 nobody said they want voice acting for every npc we are talking about main storyline not side quests and npcs and oblivion have bigger world than vanadiel itself , i doubt that you even know wth are you talking about, oblivion was just an example many other games do it, many upcoming mmorpg include voice acting for every npc not only missions, even WOW did include voice acting for many main missions.

#4 i see that you have already did your market research and found out that that voice acting "stupid shit that is waste of money" and lol giving SO4 as example when it got nothing to do with SE, it's made by tri ace.

Shortcut : All what you said were pure BS based on nothing~

Yeah, nobody's talking about oblivi... oops

Interesting point nobody has brought up... Voice acting just might somewhat interfere with the LS/party voice chat I've seen so many people clamor for. I'd probably get real annoyed if I had to hear people talking over the VO everytime I did a cool mission or quest

also fixed that lil issue for lovian

First post, been following this thread for like a week now, finally registered.

So much fightiiiing, can't we just agree that some tards luuurve 360, some tards lurrrrve PS3?

And that some love WoW, some love FFXI, it's all going to be preference on what you like better, and who gives a shit, as long as I'm enjoying myself, I don't give a fuck what system other people play on.

Personally I'm PS3/FFXI, played both selections, I just like those better, whatever though, none of you should care.

I love the thread, probably the fastest place online to have the new info posted. Good shit guys, and thanks to the translators and people who contributed, we all appreciate the hard work. =]

I love the PSDs that were posted, going to mess with them tonight probably if I get bored.

As for voice acting, I'll probably skip it anyways, as someone said earlier, voices just read it so slowly. Maybe add some voices to the big cutscenes, like how FFXI's opening was, but as for voices for the main story? It'd be hard, with player names and whatnot, and they'd more than likely make your character never speak, cause they'd need to put in a bunch of different selections for voices on the startup, for every single race and gender, then have to hire that many people to read through and voice the entire story in every voice... I highly doubt it. Maybe a narration in voice, but I can't see much more than that.

I'd rather have them forget voices altogether and work on other things, to get the game/beta released sooner so we can stop speculating everything in a thread on the BlueGartr site and play the freakin' game and get that oldschool feeling of discovery and being a newb again. Shit was so cash.

To make the hair lighter you can throw a copy of the blond hair layer under your blue, you might have to play with the opacity of the layers. Playing around a lot is the best though, I actually had more fun in Photoshop this weekend than playing any games.

Take the BLond Hair Layer drag it to the new layer icon (bottom of the layers palette button to the left of the trash can) Rename it White or Gray Hair. Change the layer mode to Normal and the Opacity to 100% then press cmd+u click on colorize option, drag the saturation slider all the way to the left, you should have gray hair, now hit OK then go to Image->Adjustments->Brightness/Contrast and slide the brightness to around +50 and the contrast to around +30. this will give you a layer of hair you put above the Miqo'tes to neutralize her original hair and make it easier for you to get the colors you want.

I do like that blue. Just throw on the green eyes and it's good!

Yeah, I figured that's what I needed to do. I was messing around with the colored layers you already had in the file and turned them all on. Black hair looked pretty nice as well. By the time I figured out how to work the Channels, and I still couldn't do it right following your directions, I was pretty tired and went to bed. I blame it on being tired.

Another thing I wanted to do was try tinting the cheek stripes different colors as well, but I didn't have enough energy left in me. Maybe tomorrow I'll try giving it a go again. For now, though, I'm going to head to bed.

My -only- complaint other than the no nose tint.. Miqo'te's lips look too big. Maybe it's just the upper.. I don't know.. I'm tired.

Stand your character still for a prolonged period of time and s/he starts whistling/making general idle sounds(Occasional cough maybe?), maybe even stretch and/or fidget too.

Even if it's just local, that would be awesome enough for me.

Yeah, I feel like adding idle motions to characters and having the NPCs move around would breathe a lot of life into FFXIV. I did notice that in FFXI your character would breathe when he/she would be standing still, and also when you'd target someone, they'd watch them... I always thought that was cool.

After playing FFXI for a while though, I became kind of sad, seeing how I've only ever seen like two NPCs roam around in that game, and most of the time it was only a few feet back and forth.

Have you ever played.....FF11? before you call other people tards look at the mirror please.

If you don't like voice acting I'm FINE with that but can we please end this bullshit none sense talk ,you say if they do that players will never speak guess what players voice acting does not matter we never spoke to begin with during FF11 cut scenes and most of the time they talk to you as "You" not by your name".

Voice acting got nothing to do with delaying the game beta or making it faster it's separate programmers plus it's the least of their worries voice acting is as simple as copy/paste to cut scenes ALREADY made and in case if you didn't know these cut scenes are the first to finish it take months to sort out bugs and glitches after completing everything in the game not finishing a VIDEO cut scene.

Some people really love to bring their own bullshit and present it as facts in here
A normal fan for FF asks for voice acting and people jump with lies as if they were facts "Voice acting wastes money! if it was why every company use it instead of saving their cash" Voice acting gonna be bad! yeah like SE never did good VA "Voice acting is shit, wtf?" voice acting is not possible for mmorpg, again you are wrong" voice acting slow the game = lie etc i can go on and on

Why not just say you hate voice acting and finish it instead of trying to make an excuses for your lies, i mean some of you already did admit that they don't give a shit about story to begin with in a mmorpg let alone voice acting.

God just reading those comments make me feel stupid i can not imagine the IQ of these people.

    I'm out ! Sayonara
