Seriously, it's time and money that SE don't need to waste in order to make a good game with an immersive story. Why spend all that time hiring, paying and implementing voice acting when you could do so much more without it?
Comparing MMOs to standard RPGs is a mistake. Oblivion could stand to have 100 unique enemies, NPCs, armours, towns, etc and it would be fine, but MMOs can't afford that luxury. Even with more space, palette swaps and reusing parts is just the smart thing to do, time and money wise.
Just because Oblivion can afford to voice every person in the world doesn't mean FFXIV can.
So? You don't stay rich by wasting money on stupid shit. Especially when MMOs have the potential to rake in money. They'd be stupid to waste it on something they could easily do without.
So what? Most of the voice actors who work in the industry do all sorts of games for all sorts of companies. Hell, if the people from SO4 can find work again they might end up on some random FF title or something else.
Good voice acting can enhance that and make it great, but if it's bad you just end up destroying the scene by wanting to skip it.
