No sound effects in FFXi

God i hope someone can help with this. After getting a new PC and fully installing FFXI I have no sound effects in game. I have BG music and a kinda windy niose when I turn the music off. I am running XP and all my drivers are up to date. Tried googling for this and have checked my registry. Also i done a file check in POL and it didn't fix it.

Looking at a re-install i think, but not sure if this will solve my problem( rather not go through 10 hours of downloading updates if at all possible).

Yea, done that. Think I'll just re-install tomorrow after a silent Dynamis tonight

Re-installed last night and still got nothing lol. Surely gotta be something dumb Funny thing i did notice in Dynamis was i did have some newer sound effects like DNC abilities and Repose.

Apologies for the necrobump, but:

I'm experiencing the same problem with my new motherboard's soundcard. I plug in my headphones, and I'm able to hear music, but the sound effects mostly don't work.

I put back in my Soundblaster Audigy soundcard, and no problems now.

Could it have something to do with HD (or surround) sound audio? That's the only noticeable difference between the two.
