PS3 Slim + Price Cuts!? (Aug 18)

Just double checked, both have demos on the EU Playstation Store as I thought. On the very unlikely case that they aren't on the NA one you can easily make an EU account to download them (same with JP demos on their store). TGS is September 24th-27th.

Amazon fucking rocks for ordering games. I can get new PS3 games on there and overnight them for cheaper than it is to buy it at the store and pay tax. This is fucking ridiculous and I love it. :3

I'm looking to buy a PS3 and saw this on the Sony website about the PS3 and PS3 Slim.

Does this mean it can't play PS2 games at all? Because I thought I read elsewhere that you could. Aside from that I like the looks of the PS3 160gig better than the slim, but the slim is quieter. Which system do you guys plan on getting? I'm having an issue here on which I plan on buying >.> lol

*edit* And speaking of those refurbished 60 gigs, are they just as fast and powerful as the newer 160 gigs? And are refurbished systems trust worthy?

correct, no systems made new will play ps2 games anymore, i'd get a slim atm though, ps2s are cheap anyways just buy one if you need it

The 160GB is no 'better' or 'worse' really. Both have the exact same feature set sans the slim can't install linux. (Oh no.) The slim is just quieter and smaller. As for refurbished, YMMV. I'm sure you'd get one that's perfectly fine, but I've had trouble with refurbished units from various companies and products. I keep reading terrible things about YLOD on the 60GB models. I'm sure it's just a handful of people making a lot of noise, but it's enough to make me want to buy new. (That and PS2s are ridiculously cheap now anyway.)

I'm getting the slim, personally. It'll fit on my desk better and quieter is nice when it'll be all of two feet away from me at max. (I'll be using headphones, but still.)

As much as I hate to pass up backwards compatibility from the 60GB model, I don't trust refurbished systems and a new 60GB model on Amazon costs $1,000... lol I'll prolly end up getting the slim since it is quieter and what have you. i bought a refurbished 60gig from gamestop in june 2007 and havent had any problems with it other than the controller was smashed and the av cables didnt work, but they replaced both of them np

Amazon charges sales tax to NY residents. NY is one of the states who taxes internet sales.

Only big companies(amazon, newegg used to, walmart, etc) actually enforce it, because they're the easiest targets to collect from.

Otherwise you're expected to pay the sales tax on internet purchases when you file your 201 for state taxes.
