PS3 Slim + Price Cuts!? (Aug 18)

im gonna be grabbing this as my first ps3 (mainly to stream movies from pc over to it), while having a blu ray player and game player..

any recommendations on games? i like mainly online games.

Just about nearly every game this gen has some sort of online mode, you'll need to define "online". Do you mean like FPS? Because there are a ton of them this gen too, lol

Okay, so, initial impressions: This thing is quiet. There is a fan (obviously, but some idiots on other places were insisting otherwise), but it's very quiet. I've only been playing in the XMB menu since there's a system update for it right out of the box (2.80) and setting it up. I have to put my ear about an inch away from the unit to hear it. (Granted my PC with low-rpm 120mm fans is about a foot away from the unit, but the PS3 is very quiet.) It's also lighter than I expected, since I'd held the original unit. It's basically what everyone expected, a slimmer, lighter, more quiet PS3. Once I get it updated I'll install a game and see how loud the fans actually get.

I'm leaving other impressions out because everyone's seen the unboxing and other youtube vids.

Edit, also for anyone using a 1680x1050 16:10 resolution LCD like me, don't worry. Just set the PS3 for 1080P and it'll look fantastic. YMMV on panel type, but my Samsung SyncMaster 220WM is displaying it perfectly. I can't tell yet if the PS3 is compensating or my monitor until I get into a game though. The XMB UI isn't offset or cut off at all.)
Edit 2 - My panel is downscaling it from 1080p to 1680x1050, there are the little black bars obviously, but it still looks fantastic. I was worried I'd have to run it in 720p instead. :D

Wow, thats pretty hot. I just had a friend upgrade his PS3 to a 500 GB today and I personally run a 500 GB as well. I love having all the storage I would ever need on-board. Hell, the PS3 even lets you use external HDD as long as their FAT32. I wish I could throw one into my 360...

I can't wait to see the PS3 Sales Figures after the price drop, it's pretty funny since everyone seems to be screaming, "THIS IS WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR, FUUUUUUU," i don't know why they didn't do it sooner. I <3 my PS3, I can't wait to play Little Big Planet with you all! ice5007 <-- PSN ID

My PSN has been on there for a long time lol (;_; it's not on there, wtf I posted on that post awhile back...), I've had a 60GB Model since last July. After they announced they would drop PS2 support I went out and bought a 60GB, heh. I was just posting it so people going through the topic will add me, I never have anyone to play Little Big Planet with since my friends play COD4 / SOCOM on PSN. (I play COD4 on 360)

There's a lot of great stuff for the PS3, I'm sure people have said it in this post already, but Uncharted/LBP/MGS4/Killzone2 are all pretty fun. I enjoyed Ratchet & Clank too, since I love that style a game on the PlayStation. Now if I could just get a next gen Jack & Daxter... :O

Currently have 2 60gigs and a MGS 80gb and I'm thinking about snagging a slim to switch out with the kids 60gb. Soooooo tired of having to clean fingerprints off theirs everday.
