No, the american and japanese 80gb software emulation models have a 98% playrate. The PAL, iirc, has substantially less. They've added playback features and improved game play of various games with various firmware updates as well. It's probably over 98% now.

thats tekken 5, not tekken tag <_<

and they'll never change them to be bc, it isnt a priority to them, and never will be. you are seriously in the minority wanting it.

You're probably right, it was the EU data, but the NA data hasn't been released, at least I can't find it anywhere.

On March 20, 2007 Sony released a compatibility list; 1,782 of the 2,451 PS2 games (73%) released in Europe were playable on the European PS3, subsequent system software updates have improved software backwards compatibility and added support for upscaling of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games up to 1080p resolution.
So yeah, this has probably been improved also. But given the choice, I'd go for 60gb, just for some playability issues for some titles (most notably for me, MGS3).

But for Sho, the older models have a higher tendency to overheat as the newer models use a more efficient process, it is only around 8-10% failure rate but it still may be a factor for you. Here are the specs for people interested in the SKU's.

wonder why they removed the "Playstation 3" when you boot up a game, feels kinda weird not seeing it.

They said it was so that you get in to the game faster. Feels weird to me also, honestly the logo was over in under a second, didn't really need to take it away.

I thought it was because they were trying to get rid of the spiderman font, they're even changing the box art now starting with Uncharted 2.

It's probably something stupid like that. I would rather they gave you the option to keep it.

on the forums it may not be the minority, but in the general population, cheaper system > backwards compatible system. you aren't going to get both. i think they should release an "elite" type ps3 for $399 that still has bc in a slim, but even then i doubt they will, as the decision is sony japans and they have said they dont see a need/desire for it.

    * The [Friends] list has been redesigned.
    * Messages from a specific person will now be accessible from that user's profile screen.
Anyone got a pic or video link that shows what's different specifically? I wouldn't mind a change that makes it easier to scroll to a particular friend on my list, rather than going through 50 of them in a vertical list.
(groups/adding aliases to guys on your friends list would be a blessing)

    * Graphical changes to the XMB (increased font and icon size).
Better be a tiny increase, as I like the current size of the icons (going to make existing themes look uglier if their icons have to be scaled up).

    * [Trophies] now load and display faster.
Hopefully they mean in general. Trophies display fine in XMB, but I've had moments where I tried to compare trophies using ingame-XMB, and it took literally two minutes for everything to load.

    * The start-up sequence has been updated with the new PS3 logo and sound. (Also on previous models.)
Wish we had the option for this, I heard the new sound via YouTube, not really a fan, but I'm hard to please when it comes to updating something I've been accustomed to for the past couple years.

    * Battery indicator for wireless controller and bluetooth headsets have been moved.
About damn time, no more obscured clock whenever I need to do a quick check.
    * A yellow icon is displayed next to the [Text Chat] icon informing user of an invite.
Does anyone on here even use this? Most of the people on my list just use messages even when we ping-pong a few back and forth to one another.

    * Leaning and shaking the controller pushes more sparkles on to the page in the ‘Original’ theme.
Yay for more processing power used while the PS3 is idling in XMB with the sparklies.

    * A new feature added allowing game developers to display Trophies in different ways, such as grouping them by add-on pack, etc.
    * Platinum [Trophies] no longer count towards the total percentage. (Note: Still count towards overall user level)
Being a trophy whore, these are the two biggest updates that I care about in FW3.0. Nothing is worse than buying a new game, and having to check the net to see which trophies are part of the base game for platinum, and which are not. Also nice not having Platinum count for roughly 20% of trophy completion now, that should inflate my % completion a fair bit for a lot of my games.

    * "PLAYSTATION 3" is no longer shown when a game is booted.
As said, was hoping there was an option to keep it. Going to be weird not hearing the jingle in that one-second animation.

    * Ability to check your internet connection upload/download speed in [Network Settings].
This is a nice addition, something out of left-field but helpful regardless to see how much that signal strength for us WiFi users is affecting our speeds.

    @Kaisha

The friend list still the same u have to scroll vertical to find the one you want the only change is that you can see all the msg from the profile window and about the Font the change is kinda big, at first i though they screwed up with the resolution since i'm running at 1080i and it looked like a 480p.

I picked one up today, to compare it with my current fat ass PS3.

here's what I've got to say.

    tl;dr Fat PS3 > Slim PS3.

I've already had my slim PS3 have an error trying to read multiple games, the power on and disk tray icon things are now actually buttons and they can easily get pushed under the little bar and become stuck causing a never ending loop of going on and going off, or an on going struggle of putting a disk in and having it shoot back out at you. and these are not noticed easily, when I first had it happen to me i thought the damn thing was broke.

I also notice that the slim gets hotter then my fat PS3 and when the fan kicks in I can hear it noticeably, where as my fat PS3, I've never heard it once and I've left it on for 3-4days straight and had no issues with hearing a fan kick in.

I also think that the fat PS3 models were produced using higher grade materials then the slim PS3. altho the slim PS3 delivers what it was intended to do, with just some minor quirks its still overall a good system, but far from perfect. I've never had a problem with my 80gig and I've had it since day 1 .. well I shouldn't say not a problem, I did have an issue with that fucking blue screw holding the hard drive in, where just trying to take it out it completely stripped like sticking my finger in butter and twisting it expecting it to cling onto my finger. ^^ That's when I got to use a drill on my PS3 to destroy the fucking screw.

Also, I get the odd feeling of whenever I look at it, that its just a nock off of what a PS3 was ment to be, sure it has its logo and what not, but the material that its made out of feels really cheap, and the overall design is just blah, the cheap plastic that they use is the exact same that they used on the PS2 it feels like.

Also don't drop it from anywhere near over 5ft, it'll break ^_^; but hell that's what warranty are for, just claim that's what it was like right out of the box.

:D it worked too. So now I've pretty much dedicated my slim PS3 to being a media hub and my fat PS3 is still used for gaming and server hosting in some online games.

I'm sorry you had those problems. Personally my feelings are the opposit. My slim keeps cooler then the old ones and I love the changes.

Yea maybe there is something wrong with your model, a slim shouldn't be making more noise than a fat (especially if it is the 80gb MGS bundle). As for parts, it uses cheaper parts aesthetically, but the actual guts of the system the slim has 45nm cell processors in it and a 65nm RSX. And from what I am aware they made the fan slightly smaller, as it doesn't emit as much heat as the older models.

And if a test I remember reading on Joystiq holds any weight, then the PS3 slim can load things slightly faster than fats (especially launch editions). As for games, I heard some users having some problems with Uncharted freezing in a lot of places, as well as here, but that should be patched pretty soon hopefully.

Yeah, the game problems have been the updates itself rather then the system. They should be patched rather quickly.

I'm mildly irritated since I was able to get past my freezing point to finish the game, and now that I want to trophy farm everything chapter 3 and on crashes like mad (up until 15)
