    Hip-Hop PSA

I'm posting this in general because I want to see people's reaction to what is being done, and more importantly, how it's being done (and I also think some people will think it's lulz or w/e). The song is quite catchy, I must admit, but I didn't really want a music discussion, so I left the music sub-forum out of this one, though if mods think it should go there, feel free to move the thread, I suppose.

YouTube - nas and nick cannon

I understand the point they're trying to make here, but I dunno, seems a bit offensive, and may not work as intended. Thoughts?

Anything coming out of Nick Cannon's mouth is automatically garbage. Nas, fine. I'm not a fan of Nas other than a couple of songs, but what he did for Rap is respectable. NC on the other hand..is pure trash. I understand what they're trying to say, but they probably could have conveyed it in a much better manner. The corporate world? Oh you mean other rappers? Every rapper out there tries to be an entrepreneur. It's a business, just like anything else.

You know what is really sad is they hit the nail on the head. I happen to be a big fan of "old-school" hip hop. Back when they were doing ground breaking stuff. Now it is all over the top pop / dance music. There is nothing even remotely as good as NWA Grand Master Flash Dr. Dre Old Snoop Eminem (old Em) Outkast . It is a shame because Hip Hop has a lot of potential but they are pissing it away to being "popular". No one in hip hop today is doing anything cutting edge.

Yeah but can't the same thing be said for almost all forms of media? Tons of video game companies making games easier to appeal to more people? Nintendo becoming a "family" machine and appealing to the masses? Movies that are remakes on top of remakes? It's not just hip-hop. It's media as a whole that is suffering. It'll probably get worse yet as well.

You're right about that Ode I've had the feeling that as I'm getting older I feel more sentimental about how good things were in the past. I know that the potential for good games movies etc is out there, but it is very hard to find it.

This is why people think the world is ending. It could also be that we are getting older, and we tend to cling to the things we grew up on.

I will say that MOST of the the shit on the radio, TV, and theaters is garbage.

You're right Dim. With entertainment today it isn't about it being "good" it's about how much money it can make. Look at Disney for example. They make a lot of shitty movies that make a lot of money. Until people stop supporting terrible things they will keep putting it out.

I wouldn't go so far to say the world is ending because the massive amounts of shit in all forms of media, but all I can do is sign when I see more "conformity" to the masses.

Plow clearly does not listen to hiphop. I dont care if you can find one pic of Nas that shows him wearing a gold chain, his latest album was devoted to concept of hip hop being dead. His first album is considered by some to be the greatest hip hop album of all time. Yeah he has had some shitty albums afterwards, as has every hip hop artist that has a shit ton of albums out. Sometimes the quantity detracts from the quality. Still, this looks like a clip from Wild N' Out or something with Nas endorsing it at the end (which is bad enough as is, yes).

Nick Cannon couch Mr. Carey is garbage, and to dog him in the same breath as Nas is ridiculous.

Hip hops beend dying since Pac died. The industry went away from real street cats rapping to that downsouth nigger shit we see now.

Ying yang twins, jeezy, gucci man, hot boyz, master p etc. The south sound is the weakest shit to ever come across the radio, but the saddest thing is the fucking suburban white kids eat that shit up, thats why it remains in heavy rotation.

(by south I would like to omit people like outkast and scarface etc)

lol I clearly don't listen to hip hop because I realize how entirely full of shit nas is?

he's tried his damnedest to be as mainstream as possible, this is absolute textbook pot calling the kettle black (perfect pun is perfect) bullshit of mainstream artists bashing how bad the mainstream is
