I think they mentioned it will likely support DX10/11 but will be built on DX9 so as many people can play it as possible.

That was what they said, yes.

Although in fairness, that was an interview and nothing they set in stone, so it's entirely possible they may change the base platform to DX10 before it releases.

Alienware? listen that is so nice to buy from Alienware it is essentially nothing really big in a not so cheap box. Never buy Alienware. Overpriced peace o' junk.

Actually my Alienware was pretty well priced and I haven't had a single problem with it in 4 years. Overpriced, maybe a little, but then again if you're going for a mobile gaming rig like I was, then the price really isn't that bad compared to lugging around your setup. And I definitely wouldn't say piece of junk.

While I love building desktops, I wouldn't even try and put together a laptop, I'm too clumsy for that. So I have no problem paying a little extra to get it done right.

At the time I purchased my m9700, all the alternatives were actually MORE expensive than my Alienware for the same specs, but then again I did have Promo Code for $500 bucks off. :D

sry didnt read properly. thought he meant a Desktop PC. mobile is okay though still very overpriced. unfortunately there is not that many Laptop sellers that produce the quality the price asks for.

Yeah, all you have to do is google m15x and it tells you it's a laptop. Silly goose.

I definitely would never bother buying a Alienware Desktop, because I can build my own rig for less than half the price, but like I said, most people who want a gaming laptop and do a lot of LAN parties like I do, would rather have it made by someone, than try and it it themselves.

I'm too lazy to build a lan box and still have to lug around my keyboard/monitor etc, so for me it was worth the extra money. Plus if you have the patience to wait, a lot of the times Alienware has a very good promotion going that can save you a ton of money on their laptops, which makes the prices on them a lot more attractive.

Alienware will always be a little overpriced but anyone I know personally who owns one has never had any problems with them. The only problem I had with mine was my charger dying and they sent me a new one within the week. *shrug*

    FFXI performs poorly in SLI.

Also 90% of FFXI's processing is done by the CPU. Having a badass graphics card isn't really going to do much to help it.

And you say the internet connection affects your framerate? You really don't know much about computers at all do you?

don'T get me wrong Alienware brings "ok" hardware to prices that are so bad. i put my PC together myself so i know that good quality has not to be that expensive.

At LAN-parties when there is an alienware owner, i normally don't think that he doesnt even know properly what is in his machine. doesnt mean that i assume you don't know whats in your machine.

i owned a DELL back once and i just bought it because of the service. this was a bad idea. DELL ripps off. even more since last year.

i just don't like the idea having to pay more for something you get a lot cheaper. of course it only pays off if you know what works together. sadly those people seem to exstinct somehow

edit: cause of performance of FFXI. if you don't use Windower for FFXI like me you can use Easytoolz. is a free programm that allows you to change the CPU-affinity to certain programs.

My best friend purchased one for college and it was nothing but problems. Dealing with Alienware customer service is the worst experience of my life. They promised us up and down the problems were unique and they had solid systems.

However, after 3 years of fighting with his laptop, they gave him a brand new one different style/model and everything, this one had issues as well.

If they hadnt been so generous i would have nothing good to say concerning the experience.

To be fair though, my friend might have something missing upstairs...

I got my AW as a gift. After a power outage shortly after I'd gotten it, it wouldn't boot, so I had to send it back for repairs. All the slip that came back said was they'd used an improper cable, but I guess part of me finds it hard to believe that was the only problem and it worked find beforehand. Either way, it's been about 6 months since and I haven't had issues.

Whilst this is true, it's wrong to say that graphics card isn't an important factor. There are people using fairly rubbish 5-year-old PCs with ATI cards that can run FFXI at capped FPS pretty much anywhere, and others (like myself) using newer and comparatively powerful PCs with Nvidia 8/9-series that start to see FPS drops as soon as more than a full party is onscreen, almost completely regardless of what sort of resolution the game is set to.

I've got an 8800GTS and I've never had an issue once I found a good set of drivers that worked with FFXI...?

    +1

Before I quit I had the following system setup..

    EVGA X58 3x SLI Motherboard
    Intel Core i7 920 CPU O/C'd @ 4.2GHz
    6GB Corsair Dominator RAM
EVGA GTX 275 x2 GPU in SLI

If I ran the two video cards in SLI it was HORRIBLE. I mean 10 or less FPS just entirely unacceptable. If I turned SLI off and ran one card I rarely ever dropped below the 29FPS mark. Which makes me think they should rly up the cap FPS on the next one. I know 29 is OKAY but let's get to atleast 60 where the human eye cuts off noticing it, eh..

I think Izzy has data that shows Crossfire makes FFXI run a very small (marginal) better than without. Was a long time ago during the XI benchmark thread. Not sure though how the technology fares, since XI doesn't take true "advantage" of the hardware.

Most people don't, but they'd rather default to "It's SE's problem for not supporting my 2008-2010 graphics card, I shouldn't have to actually try to find a fix myself."

Are you ever going to get off SE's cock? If you can find me a driver that fixes the compatibility issue with 9800 GT I'll find you a strawberry-blonde unicorn, deal?
