It actually not, because a 4870 is probably just as good (without the DX11) and is a lot cheaper, especially second hand.

Lol, he was saying when the 8600GT came out it was a good card then, but it was an entry card then. The point he was making is that the 5770 now is in the same position.
Personally I have a 4870 now, and I don't have a need for DX11 yet, so unless I find some spare cash or beta shows me otherwise I may keep rocking this for a bit.
Same here, using a factory OC'd 4870 (IceQ4+) and am still very happy with it, although I did have some fan trouble that still has me a bit worried since the cards can easily cook bacon. With the release of the the 470 and 480 i'm excpecting ATI to drop the price of the 5850 and 70 here soon and if I have the money and can convince the wife thats the time I may upgrade.
videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
(if someone wants to repost it as an actual link, lol1stpost)
So people can get a quick idea of where their card stands at in the food chain.
/backtolurking
my card ranks 18 on that chart and I get 18-21FPS while frapsing and 21+ just runing around, prbably have lower average due to server load in cdertian areas, just an idea of what my vid card is capable of.
I'm not quite sure whats wrong with this list, but it's pretty laughable. 5870 ahead of the 5970? 260 ahead of the 295? The latter in both comparisons are nearly twice as fast as the prior.
Actual list under spoiler, done via card.. not GPU. (Some cards on the list are dual GPUs, etc). Raw speed only, gaps between each rank obviously may vary and can be researched on your own.
Spoiler: show
Good ol' Voodoo
ah I see thats a new list, hmmm, my old card was rank 58 and my new card is rank 23, thats nice jump, not GReeeeat but decent.
Probably best to run the passmark benchmark Click and rank your whole system, the thing is you can have a great GPU but if you have a crap motherboard and memory then your not guna get very far.
Trying to go from 82 to 7 soon. Last piece of the puzzle for meh. ><;
1231.7 on that benchmark.
CPU (i7 930 @ 3962MHz) - 4330
2D Graphics (9500GT 512MB) - 487
3D Graphics (9500GT 512MB) - 305.6
Memory (6GB OCZ Gold @ 1600MHz) - 2219.4
Disk - 345.7
Baaaaaaw. ; ;
my system got 1081.0
Cpu intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3Ghz - 1799
2D Graphics (Radeon 5870) 496.4
3D graphics (Radeon 5870 - 2616.1
Memory DDR2-800 - 877.6
Disk 433.3
I got a 1847.2, and I must say.. this is the stupidest benchmark I've ever run lol. Half the video tests didn't even have my GPU clock itself, was sitting at my 2D downclocked frequencys until it got to the DX10 test.
Awful, please don't put any merit into these numbers lol.
I just ran this performancetest and this is what my Computer got:
1126.7 overall
CPU @ 2764.1
2D Graphics @ 281.9
3D Grpahics @ 1586.5
Memory @ 693.9
Disk @ 438.5
CD Drive @ 600.9
CPU is Intel QQ6600
Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Memory 4GB 800MHz DDR2 (nothing special)
Disk 500GB 7200RPM Hitachi
I guess I should look at upgrading to more RAM and faster timings 6-12gb of 1066 should utilize my CPU better.
This is part of my point, I agree that the graphics section is very underwhelming to look at but benchamarking is about data not pretty pictures.
You are benching the whole system here and can find the weak point in your system by comparing each component against other users.
Kurokikaze for example has a pretty good system all be it the graphics card which is holding him back.
Got 1262 here.
CPU - 3416
2D - 290
3D - 1685
Memory - 1090
Disk - 490
CPU Q6600 @2.4ghz
Radeon 4870 512 mbs
Memory 6GB 800MHZ DDR2
Disk 500GB 7200 RPM Samsung
Luckily I have a new PC otw, because my laptop is all kinds of fucked:
Overall: 185.7
CPU: 336.1
2D: 61.8
Memory: 273.3
Disc: 185.3
Yeeeeeeaaahhh....
That being said, can anyone tell me if what I'm getting should handle it? I know next to nothing about this stuff.
Win7 Premium 64-Bit
AMD Phenom™II X4 925 Quad-Core CPU
500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
Asus M4A77TD AM3 DDR3 AMD 770 Chipset Technology SATA RAID MB w/GbLAN
4GB (2GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Module
ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB GDDR5 16X PCIe Video Card [DirectX 11 Support]
I have a pretty good laptop... Alienware M17x revision 2.
Windows 7 Home Premium
2x 1GB Geforce 260m
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
3.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600
500GB 7200RDM HDD
The monitor is also 17"... 1440x900 resolution. I'll be building a better desktop when I get home, though :D.
I should be good... right... right? My laptop's a monster :X
I'm currently thinking of upgrading my video card to a GeForce 9800 GTX. Anyone here knows how it will handle FFXIV? I'm doing an upgrade soon and I don't want to make another one when FFXIV so I'm looking for recomendations.
