I doubt a 9800 will be enough.
I doubt a 9800 will be enough.
Enough for what? It will be enough to run the game, but how good would depend on the rest of his build too. S-E said even older cards will be able to run the game (how enjoyably is a different matter).
But I'd agree that if you want to upgrade for FFXIV now then you should get a better card. And if money is an issue just wait for now, still got some time before the game gets released and computer parts will get cheaper.
ohey my card is number 33 >:3 I feel almost special........
FF14 runs nice on my setup but I'm really thinking I need to invest in a controller ~ kb/mouse setup/response is enough to make anyone have a headache ~
my card isn't even on that list, GeForce 6150SE nForce 430.
as for benchmark...
316.7
CPU 1175.1
2D 294.9
3D 25.7
Memory 380.2
Disk 430.2
CD 969.9
no wonder i get like 2fps on xiv
That's because it's not a card, its onboard. Which means it's built into your motherboard so your monitor spits out a picture without an actual gfx card ;p
I've always played on PC as well, and my thoughts mirror yours. But, my PC needs significant upgrades to play XIV, whereas my PS3 needs $0 invested... wondering if it is worth it to play on PS3 instead of PC. As a random note, can you plug a wireless USB keyboard and mouse into your PS3 and play with that instead of the controller?
/endthreadjack
I played ffxi with a ps2 controller and it almost never was a problem. It's surprisingly easy to set the controller down, type, then pick the controller up again. The only issue was when I was autorunning someplace dangerous and I needed to immediately stop running while typing.
Yes, you can use a wireless keyboard/mouse (using USB dongle) If i'm not mistaken. Not sure about bluetooth configuration. Although, I wouldn't see why not.
However, in order to use a keyboard/mouse configuration in a game, the game itself must support it, which I think SE would for FFXIV. At least I hope -_-;
Thanks Zeno.
You said above you have a Core Duo at 3.13;
What motherboard do you have (if custom built PC, if not, what brand/model #)
How much memory do you have?
What GFX card do you have now? (Sounds like nothing meaningful if you were talking about getting a 9800)
What resolution do you run your monitor in?
I think SE planned to focus on the PC this time around. Seeing as a PC can continually evolve while a console has its "limitations"
Be nice to lookup info on the new quests/what new things people find in ffxiv while playing it also when it comes out which can easily be done on a pc!
Need... Moar... Heatsinks. Shit's running upper 60's - lower 70's overclocked on a hot day. Time to invest in some solid copper 'sinks.
I agree, PC is the preferred way for me. My PS3 is also acting up lately, not sure if its my unit (one of the "large" as in, not slim 80gb models), hoping its just shoddy EA craftsmanship on Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Seeing as how a PC is more vital in general, I'll probably get FFXIV for PC, spend the money upgrading the PC, rather than worry about my PS3 burning out and having to upgrade that and my PC (which also is blue screening more often at the moment...sigh).
Then again, FFXIV looks so nice... be sweet to be playing it on the 40" XBR and surround sound...
This is the correct, and only professional solution.
