FFXIV Hardware Requirements

My PC has a ATI Radeon HD 3200 (256 mb). I'm guessing I need to upgrade to play the alpha, but I just wanted to make sure, since I may not play on PC once the game hits the shelves anyway. I don't care as much that the game isn't beautiful as long as it can actually muster up the strength to run it.

Anyone actually been able to play the game with this card? Anyone even suspect that it's possible?

Doubt it, can't really change graphic options yet either.

I was thinking that if there was even half a chance, I'd just give it a shot, and if it doesn't run it, maybe I can just fool around with the character creator.

Considering 3200 is really old, and not really made for gaming and less then half performance of a 8800gts (512MB version I presume?) as mentioned above. Going off what the above poster mentioned and online benchmarks for the 2 video cards, yes you can run ffxiv.. at like 640x480 or 800x600 at the lowest settings for about 5-10fps or less...? (thats if it even loads)

In that case, can anyone recommend a in the $100-150 price range that would be available in stores for a Gateway with AMD Phenom II X4 805 and 8GB of DDR2?

try and find a sale radeon is the best bang for your buck, I bought a HD 5770 1GB card for $150 and its a fairly fast card that runs the alpha at 30+ FPS in areas that are not congested.

Hey, so I tried to improve my FPS by reducing the shadows in the options, but now it's just saying 'version update failed', any ideas?

And yet, the actual actions I carried out would tell you otherwise. I didn't dream it, dude. You can indeed remove shadows to improve performance, I was simply asking for help on that front.

You actually can disable shadows, however, why it would cause your version update to fail? No idea.

I second that.

5770 is pretty decent and if you get 2 and CFX them you'll get performance that exceeds the 5850 and gets close to the 5870 with a little tweaking, and those two are the highest single GPU cards ATI has at the moment.

Get a 5770 and Crossfire it later or save up for a 5850. cant go wrong with either.

On a side note, did SE mention anything about FFXIV supporting PhsyX?

There's a good chance...as we know they're working pretty closely with Nvidia during the development stage for the 3D aspect. But I won't be expecting it.

I have the same card (Sapphire) and I've seen about the same numbers for the most part.
