    Thinking of building a new soon, planning on;

    2,048MB ATI FirePro V8800
    A-DATA Gaming Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Western Digital Caviar Black 1.5TB 7200 RPM
    AMD Phenom II X4 945

unsure as to what motherboard to get.

    misc;
ASUS MS246H Glossy Black Widescreen LCD Monitor

I've got a 550Watt Powersupply I'm currently using, going to see if I can get away with that, if not I'll probably see what I can get at the time.

That's a workstation GPU, do you plan on using the system for "work"? because you can make a decent gaming PC for the price of 1 of those cards.

550W is more than enough power for this system but you will need a better grafics card.

Unless he needs it for work.

I have a friend with V8650 and he plays Dragon Age just fine. Not meant for gaming enthusiasts, but it'll get the job done. Plus, the V8800 uses the same core as the 5870, which is plenty enough for most people.

It's like a $1200 workstation GPU to boot, lol. It'll run it fine.

I can run Crysis 64-bit with "Very High" everything at 25-30FPS at 1440x900 with 8x AA... and 30-35 on 2x AA... and with any other game I'm pushing 40-80FPS at max settings. I'm using an Alienware M17x built around December 5th, 2009 (just before they started putting i7s in).

    All that matters:

    -Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    -3.2GHz (overclocked from 2.8) Intel Core 2 Duo T9600
    -2x 1GB nVidia GTX 260Ms SLI
    -8GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM
    -Plenty of harddrive space

I'm sure many people who are looking to play this on their PC have all thought the same thing "Can my PC handle this game? will it be like Aion's system specifications?"

Fortunately and sadly, the system requirements are a bit "beefier" then most even thought, and the game is still in alpha testing, so two things could happen in the near future, the following specifications could increases (yikes), or decrease (phew).

    Operating System
    Windows XP SP3
    Windows Vista: 32-bit /
    64-bit SP2
    Windows 7: 32-bit / 64-bit

    CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo (2.4 GHz)
    AMD Athlon X2 (2.4 GHz)

    RAM
    Windows XP: 1.5GB
    Windows Vista / Windows 7: 2GB

    Hard Disk Space
    10 GB for installing
10 GB on drive containing the My Documents folder for downloading

    GPU
NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or higher VRAM 512 MB
Radeon HD 2900 or higher VRAM 512 MB
(Will most likely get tuned down to 256)

    Audio
    DirectSound compatible (DirectX 9.0)

    Internet
    broadband connection

    Monitor Resolution
    1280 x 720 (32 bit color)

    DirectX
    DirectX 9.0c
Ooohh, my laptop would eat this game alive

If square wants to steal some of the WOW success then sys reqs will have to be very generous. I shouldn't have to build a new pc to be able to play this on day 1

This is the general idea, unless you're still using a Celeron.

Not being snobbish, but SE has given a very good alternative then spending butt loads for a new PC. Across the several XIV boards I frequent, a good majority of people will go the PS3 route for this reason specifically.

We'll have to remain and see how SE handles the Settings option though. I'm sure if everything is set to low/mid-low, most gaming PCs built in the last couple of years should run it fine.

True enough, but there is a HUEG difference in quality between WoW and even the alpha test.

550W is enough power for that system. unless you dont want to switch from 5870 to a 5970.

Modular PSU for cable management and its always good to have some head room in case he changes components or go CFX (Though I'm not sure 750 can support 2 5780s...)

ATI FirePro V8800 is a waste of money if you are not going to use it for specific 3D work [3Dstudio Max/Maya/etc], V8800 is like a Radeon 5870 2GB iirc and thats about 500$ and for about 200$ more you have the current gaming behemoth 5970. [I got a humble passive 5750 but just because I want a silent PC, think I will be able to get away with it for FFXIV]

I would use the extra money to get a really good motherboard, more ram, a good monitor, a good case, a really good PSU or a SDD for SO/Programs.

Best choice if you are not in a hurry is to wait as close to the realease date to get a new system.

That was my intentions, but my system I'm currently running is 2-3 years old but the specs on the system are nothing amazing because I built it when I didn't exactly have a ton of money to spend, and my previewus setup had just taken a shit on me because my GF thought that you could pull the cords off of the cards and what not with the system on.

End Result, I got to save 50$ on a 550Watt power supply, that's it.

Oh and I got a chance to smack a bitch that day. :D

I just recently bought a graphics card for this game and the card was the
    GeForce 9400 GT

the minimum for the game was

    GPU
NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or higher VRAM 512 MB
Radeon HD 2900 or higher VRAM 512 MB
(Will most likely get tuned down to 256)

however when I was doing the alpha yesterday it was REALLY choppy. Even with auto run I was still running slower than other people.

Processor is 3.0 Ghz Dual core pentium 4
    3 GB of DDRRAM
    Windows XP 32 bit
    150 GB Hard drive

Not sure what else should be posted

9000 series is mostly re branded 8000s. you can get a better card and use your current one for PhsyX. an ATI 5770 will work for now with a patch to activate PhsyX on it.
