Alright thanks guys, I'll do more searching before I buy since I do want a good monitor with it.
9400 is garbage, honestly. If you're going with Nvidia, the base you could get away with is a 8800GTX (ultra rare, but were excellent for years upon years). I have a 285GX, but even I know I'll need to update at some point soon.
I'd recommend at least something in the 2XX series, like a 245 or something.
Some thoughts on performance.
With my Radeon 5850 the game was able to keep a constant 30FPS. The GPU load was at about 30% to 49%. If the framerate cap was removed and load was at 100% I think FPS would be between 70-90FPS. CPU load was between 12% to 15% on the i7 980X. Keep in mind that this game is unoptimized. I think that by beta and release, a system with an i7 and a 4870 or 5770 or higher should be able to run this game at full resolution pretty well.

Lol who do you think you're going to be helping by posting your experiences with a 980X? Seriously, that processor costs nearly double most of these peoples entire rig, and if they need help they're most likely completely ignorant to the fact that that's a $1000 cpu.
Sorry, pet peeve.
Tomorrow i will check out CPU load with Phenom II x4 965 and post some screens.
I posted this a while back, but on a 4.2ghz core2 duo with a gts250 in an area busy enough to cause a framerate drop with shadows disabled, one thread is at full, and another is at 3% or so, while GPU usage is around 90%. The 3% thread jumps to 40% momentarily when bringing up the map. Behavior was the same in the last test.
sprry,if this is wrong theread or old news.
FFXIV Benchmark for JP

hope this will work on NA computers..
Works, can pick english, low or high res and race. It shows the cutscene at the ship after character creation and your score.
The fuck? Where did that come from.
[edit] Great bench, HD and all. Making a new thread for conversation about it: http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94743
So I got my email regarding Beta invite, installed the softy and now downloading version update... 50+ hours remaining. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa??
^ Torrent it. Its much faster.
Hmm, did a little search, most require membership or some other form of restriction. Can you post a link, please? Also, in terms of installing it, simple drag and drop works, right?
A friend of mine is having an issue with the game client crashing as soon as its opened on Windows XP. Asked me to post here to see if anyone else has had a similar issue and if so how did they fix it.
Regular Windows XP error screen with black screen on client.
Specs:
Windows xp sp3
2 gigs rams
Radeon X1950 Pro
Amd Athlon 64 x2 dual 5000+
Hes tried deleting the download folder and reinstalling and no luck.
just download bittorrent or utorrent, w/e you prefere. Then just right click on the torrent file located in My Documents/My Games/Final Fantasy XIV/Game/yadda yadda (should be in subsequent folders somewhere) and "Open in bittorrent/utorrent" and it should start downloading from there. Or open your ports on your router to the numbers specified in the FFXIV config file.
I hope you can understand, sorry. There's a crap load of user information on the FFXIV private forum if you can find it. Good luck![]()
Wow thanks for the quick reply. I'll let him know and report back with results.
I mentioned this in the benchmark thread, but in the whirlwind of other posts there, it got overlooked.
I have a laptop (boo). It has a GeForce 8600M. Not the best card out there, meh. Regardless, since it's a laptop, it came with proprietary custom drivers (version 176.37 to be exact, which are nearly two years old). They didn't work with Windower, so a while back I went on a grand crusade to update them... I spent days on laptopvideo2go.com downloading, installing, rebooting, and reverting after BSODs and error messages, and the ONLY one I've gotten to work for me is 186.81, which is flickery and obnoxious but works with Windower at least.
Would anyone be willing to work with me on getting a better driver? I tried dozens, all with modded .infs that claim to support my card (list of drivers that are supposed to work here)... yet all of them either gave me a "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it" crash or a BSOD on reboot. 651 on low settings on the benchmark makes me desperate for any shred of improvement (in before buy a ps3).
