They just updated the official driver, have you tried that?

I'm not sure if it works with windower, but I guess it can't hurt to try.

Here's hoping. Every other time I downloaded a driver straight from nVidia, it insisted that it didn't support my card... and yes, I'm sure what model it is. ; ; Something about this damn laptop.
Will edit shortly with install results, thanks for the link.
Edit: Install went through smoothly, but upon reboot I get one of the same old errors: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" So with this driver I basically have no GPU at all.![]()
I'm having a lot of performance issues running both the benchmark and the alpha, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I use a laptop with the specs listed below, and when I run the benchmark on low settings I get a score of about 500. I can't even play the alpha because it's just way too laggy (5-10 FPS, maximum). And this is all with all my my settings put on performance.
Am I screwed, or is there something that I'm doing wrong? My drivers are updated. I'm pretty sure that my specs are the same as if not more than the minimum requirements, but like I said I can't even run the alpha properly.
Windows XP 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9600 @2.80GHz
2790 MB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT (Driver version 197.16)
That seems a little strange. I've got the same video card with a 2.53 GHz processor, 64-bit windows 7, and more ram, and I got 821 on low. If you check my post above you can find the most recent driver, but I wouldn't think it would make THAT much of a difference.
As for the alpha though, you should probably expect it to be difficult to play, as the 9600M is actually significantly below the video card requirement. The second decimal in the name is actually more important than the first in this case (my impression is that the 9600 is an upgraded 8600, while the 9800 is an upgraded 8800). So the performance of the 9600 is actually below the 8800. Aside from that, the mobile versions don't actually correlate with the desktop versions, and the 9600M is going to have significantly lower performance than the regular 9600. You might be able to use your computer to try out the alpha and everything, but you'll probably want to upgrade if you want to seriously play the final game.
I have Windows 7 64 bit, a core 2 duo 2.4ghz e6600, and a Geforce 9800 GTX 512 mb ram, and 4 gb system ram.
My motherboard is too old to support any newer cpu, for me would buying a new video card offer me any better performance or will it be bottle necked by the CPU making it pretty useless to buy a newer card, to get better performance on FFXIV.
Yeah it is defiantly a huge difference between the 9600 and 9800 my 9800M I was able to clear 1100 on high and it seemed to look pretty good and minimal lag so I think my laptop should be ok to play it on the road. but all your other specs should be fine but being its a laptop there is no way to really upgrade the GPU so most likely going to be out of luck. However if this is anything like the bench for XI you could be ok playing on low settings as there are/were pcs that failed that and play it just fine on low.
From the Eorzeapedia E3 interview:
So SE is working with Intel and Nvidia to optimize XIV. Was still debating whether to stick with Intel or go the AMD route, but not anymore!Eorzeapedia: Will you be optimizing the FINAL FANTASY XIV client to take advantage of 4 or more cores for next generation processors with 64 bit architectures?
Tanaka: We will guarantee that it will work (in terms of the 64 bit technology). We don’t think it will have much benefit for the users, so we would like to stick to the 32 bit. It is compatible, but we will be using 32 bit. We are working very close with Intel for optimization.
I need some help building a pc. Friend is having someone build it for me. Can you guys just give me an idea of a good pc specs that would run the game. I will be using itfor more than gaming.
I just downloaded the client using utorrent 2.0.1, so it seems it still works. The tracker doesn't seem happy about it though and it seemed like the only peers I could connect to were using 3rd party torrent programs.
I was getting 1MB/sec which was a hell of a lot better than the 50~60KB/sec the official downloader was able to scrounge up. This even though i forwarded those port ranges.
im slowly building up a system as well and have been doing a little research that will help me get a PC I can have for awhile and saving some money along the way. I think I am settled on a i7 930 chip, Asus P6T mobo. Still trying to decide on gpu, but most likely 58xx Radeon based on most people's results from the benchmark test. I think after it was all said and done my total was a little over $1,000 starting from scratch. Right where I was trying to budget
TL;DR whole thread. so please forgive me if answer has been given.
Basically since my PC is a pos i was going to play on PS3 but now PS3 version is delayed i want to know if the minimum specs for FFXIV have been released or maybe we know through the benchmark test or w/e. But i was wondering how much it'll cost me to buy a PC capable to run the game. any help will be appreciated. Thanks
We'll get a clearer picture once people start playing around with the beta client. We still have 3 whole months until the release date, so patience!
I tested out my system with the benchmark last night.
On both low and high resolutions I got a score between 2500 and below 3000, which gave the result of 'Standard Performance'.
But do you think it will be worth buying if it runs at that setting? Will the graphics look good and will it be playable with decent FPS? My computer specs are:
Pentium Dual-Core E2180 running @ 3GHz
2GB of DDR2 PC6400 memory, usually with about 1.7GB free when my computer is idle at the desktop
GTX260 216 Core, 896MB
Windows XP 32-bit
Regarding resolution, I usually run all games at 1680 x 1050 with at least 2x AA
Do you think my system is capable of handling the game well?
with those scores im sure you could play the game itself though it may be slightly choppy at that res and with AA on, you have a decent video card which can handle it at that resolution, and like others have said the benchmark will usually be alot more stressful than the actual game itself.
the only thing I could suggest is upgrade your CPU, you can even get pretty nice price/performance cpu/motherboard combos for around and even under $100, also if you really wanted to your DDR2 memory can still be used on DDR2 capable motherboards.
