Have they said how beta will compare with the final version as far as specs go (or can anyone with other beta experience chip in with how it usually works)? I've downloaded the client on both mine and my fiancee's laptop to see how it runs, but I'm curious to know if they can handle this well, will they be able to handle the retail version just as well.

Hello, I got a laptop sorts recently and I was wondering if these specs would be able to run the game decently.

    Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    8GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 4GB DDR3)
    1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
    500GB SATAII 7,200RPM

If you bothered to read, I mean, there are like 5000000000 posts about this by now.

But yes, it should run FF14 more than decently.

    Hi folks,

Sorry to add to the big list of questions. I'm relatively knowledgeable regarding computer hardware but I don't keep up with all of the new hardware that's coming out. What I need to know is whether or not a graphics card/PSU upgrade will be all that's necessary for me to run the game.

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz, 8MB L2 cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    4GB DDR2-SDRAM

I won't even bother to post the graphics card as it scored about 500 on the benchmark, but my question is -- is my processor and RAM powerful enough not to bottleneck a more powerful graphics card, or is it better to build a new machine from the ground up?

    Thanks for any help.

Another "what can i get" post, but mostly seen US ones so far, im in the UK and need to buy a new rig for this. Budget of around £600-£1000 (cheaper the better) and dont have the skills to build it myself. So far ive found the

    "Titan Onyx" Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz @ 4.00GHz Quad Core DDR3 System with Radeon HD 5750 GDDR5 (£850 with Win7)

    and

    "Ultima Viper" Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz DDR3 System with Radeon HD 5570 GDDR3 (£1.050 with Win7) - on overclockers.co.uk

but seriously trying to cut down costs as i play most games on the 360, but want to run 14 on max specs (and possibly will run Portal 2 in future ^^

Current PC is legacy, no point upgrading.

    Thanks

You should be fine slapping a 5850, 5870, GTX470, or GTX480 in your rig. A Q6600 is still a very respectable CPU and 4GB RAM is plenty.

First setup is probably better(not really sure on 55vs57), can try pcspecialist.co.uk so you don't have to buy Windows 7

I would try and get a 5770 at least (i7 920 and 5770 can get 4~4.5k on benchmark). But yeah, first one is better out of those two. Not sure how far you'll be able to turn up the settings, doubt you'll be able to run with shadows/AA/other effects on max at a decent fps, but those won't add a huge amount of details I would imagine.

Second one is a very weird price considering the 5570 falls into entry level cards though.

EDIT:: My PC cost £950ish at first excluding OS (got for £30 being a student)

MSI X58 PRO (£160) (was the only budget board at the time, wish I spent more on MB now though, but it's not terrible)
    HD 5770 (£140)
    i7 920 (£200)
    Corsair H50 Cooler (£60)
    Antec 900-2 (£85)
    1 TB HDD (£80)
    850W Corsair PSU (£110)
6 GB Corsair RAM (forgot exactly, £110 I think)

Of course I later added another HD 5770 (£140), an X-Fi Forte soundcard (£150), 2 more better 1 TB HDDs for RAID 0 and an SSD (about £200 in total), G110 (£90, imported), G13 (£50) and Razer Mamba (£90ish).

You can build an i5 or AMD based CPU build for quite a bit less though I think.

5750 is a little better than 2x 5570s in Crossfire so the first system is not only cheaper, it's also going to perform a lot better in games.

Hmmm, interesting quote from Tanaka, in the JeuxOnline interview:

<They ask why the minimum sys requirements for beta are so low and that those requirements don't allow you to get a "good" score on the benchmark>

Tanaka: Because it's an MMORPG, we've maxed the quality of the game so players can enjoy it for a long time.
With time, we're sure it will be able to get a higher score on the benchmark that is impossible at this moment, because the hardware to get a max score doesn't exist yet.
We kinda did that on purpose. But because technology evolves so quickly, you will soon be able to get a high score with a medium PC.
SE saying they've built a game where no hardware exists yet to take full advantage of it graphically. Interesting.

Now I really want to see how beta runs on peoples PCs.

Same thing happened with XI. When the game was first released there was no hardware to run it on max settings enjoyably (though, even nowadays it's not exactly possible thanks to their shitty engine).
Even in one of the older interviews they said that you would need to wait (I think they said a couple of years? But that's unreasonable seeing how fast stuffs develops now) for proper hardware.

Don't expect to see FFXIV in DX11 not gonna happen. (Unless you pay)

That's not what I meant by my post Mr.Troll.

Just interesting that is saying it'll be awhile before medium level hardware will give us those bigger numbers.
