Also upgrading my PC to play until PS3 release. Would be nice if someone could give some hints choosing GPU. Here's some specs:
Vista 32-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
1GB RAM (upgrading to 3GB)
for GPU im thinking these options 1GB HD4850/HD5450/HD5750. I just wanna upgrade so my PC can barely run the game for 6 months, dont wanna dump too much money into my rig since i dont play on PC otherwise. 5450 seems good choice cos its so cheap lol, dunno if it can run the damn game tho.
Any help would be appreciated!
People say the HD4850 is good so you should look into that if you want to only put $100 or so into a GPU. I've got an AMD Phenom x4 in my PC that's set to 2.3 GHz (quad core though) so you might want to overclock your CPU if you don't want to upgrade that as well. I'm also considering overclocking my CPU and getting a better cooling system if doing that would cost less than buying another CPU just for an AM2+ socket.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
GeForce 8600GT 256mb
2gb ram, but getting 4gb. Think that will make any difference?
Looking for a laptop for FFXIV. I have looked on the FFXIV site and checked out the rec. specs to run the game. I believe all 3 of these meet those standards but which is the best 1 out of these 3.

From the looks of it the last one to me looks the best but its been a while since I have looked for a laptop. I'm not 100% sure about the graphics cards on laptops since they are different then desktops. They are all around the same price but if anyone knows a better deal please point me in that direction.
I will mainly be playing FFXIV on it but will also use it as a home computer a lil too. We have a desktop and a powerbook g4 but neither of them can play anything. But the work for everyday use like surfing and music but I would probably put most of my music on the new laptop. The reason I am looking for a laptop is because I can take it to work with me.
I posted this in the TECH forum but doesn't look like anyone is replying to it so since I want it for FFXIV I thought I would post it here.
Thank You for you replys.

This has been a rough time to upgrade for me, I have an alright system, nothing outrageously amazing, but here is what I currently have:
Intel Core Duo 2.4ghz CPU (775 Socket)
4GB DDR2 800
Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT
Here's what I was planning on doing:
Want to upgrade CPU to an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5GHz 6MB L2 Cache
and for video card I was thinking either an ATI 5770 or a 585X
Any thoughts? I'm tired of starring at a 2000 benchmark score and can upgrade to the above mentioned specs for a little under $500.
I don't know that well, so it would be better if someone with experience could answer. Also, we don't really truly know what the requirements will be and the minimum requirements may go down a little. From what I can tell though, the first one wouldn't work because the graphics card is way below the minimum. Aside from that, I'm not sure how to call it. The second one has a much better processor, but the graphics card barely meets the requirements. The third one has a better graphics card, but the processor just barely meets the requirements. I'd say go with the second one, but you might want to look into it a bit more. For reference, I used this page to compare graphics cards:

When you compare graphics cards on their chart, make sure you look at the ones labeled "mobility" or "mobile."
Will it blend?

I found this laptop after more searching does it look any better then the previous laptops i posted meta? or anyone else with and knowledge on the subject at hand.

8600M GT 256 can run the game (his/hers is a 8600 GT), with the latest drivers. Just need to OC it a bit, which is pretty safe if you are in a PC.
People need to stop saying you need the min, to run the game. This is never true for 99% of games out there if you know what you doing.
I have a macbook pro so it's impossible for me to upgrade anything besides the amount of memory and hard drive.
It'll run but it'll chug.
I'm not sure where people are getting the idea laptops are made for gaming ;/
Unless you got money to burn to actually make it decent (like around $1500 at least). Unless you want to play a slideshow
B-b-b-b-b-but the accessibility! B-b-b-b-b-but the portability! I can game on the go! I can game at the office!
I mean yeah, you can, but it just won't be very well. Its like gaming on a Mac - sure its possible, but ugh, is it really worth the money/trouble?
Or it's because I'm in college and frequently take my laptop to class, or from school to home. I had a 24" iMac before and lugging that thing back from school was a pain in the ass. Now I can just throw my laptop in my backpack and call it a day. I wasn't planning to game on it. In fact, I was hoping to play 14 on PS3, but now that the PS3 version is delayed, I want to see if I can play it on my laptop. The six months difference really is a lot.
I am running an Athlon X2 2.8ghz, 2 gigs of ram, and a 1 gig geforce 9400 gt with the latest nvidia drivers, yet I am getting a 492 on the low res benchmark... wtf?! Computer is free of viruses/adware and nothing else is running in the background when I run it; any ideas??
My friend is asking if XIV would run max settings with absolutely zero problems on this beast

My first thoughts is definitely, but I know shit all about laptop graphics chips.
Yes I assume?
