    IMO the benchmark is wanky.

My first thoughts is definitely, but I know shit all about laptop graphics chips.

    Yes I assume?
Based on the beta requirements, it should run the game on maybe low-to-medium settings, but that laptop doesn't exactly have a high end processor or video card. Even if the requirements for the final game go down, I'm fairly positive that it won't be able to run the game very well at maximum settings.

I ran the benchmark on mine got a 500 on low settings, 3gigs ram, I need a video card and possibly a windows upgrade, but I love xp. Should hold up till PS3 release.

Well I will be representing old school style, just waiting on my ATI 5770 MSI Hawk card to get here. Unfortunately it will be a single-card only setup but I say old school cause of this mainly:

    CPU: Intel Pentium 4 - 3.0 GHz HT (800MHz Bus Speed) (2MB L2 Cache)
    Chipset: 945p Lakeport Express Chipset
    Memory: 4GB (1GB x 4 DDR2 533MHz Dual-Interleaved) (max is 670MHz but don't have matching memory)
    Hard Drive: 1TB WD Caviar 7200RPM 3.0GB/s 32MB Cache
    GPU: ATI Radeon 5770 1GB GDDR5
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Should be an interesting experiment indeed. I'll post my scores when I have the card in a couple of days.

Can a Pentium 4 even run the alpha?

I could boot up my old desktop and see if a P4+1.5gb ram+radeon 9600pro can score on the benchmark. :3

It runs the benchmark just fine so I would imagine so. I just don't have a decent graphics card to test out how high I would score. Not sure what I scored in the benchmark with an ATI HD 2400 Pro but it took maybe 60 seconds for it to even load the first cut scene part.

@Deadgye: I am not counting on a high score lol but what did you get? Maybe my 5770 will arrive today. If I score a decent score guess you could count my system as being the bare minimum for the most part. I actually was on newegg.com looking at the lowest processor you could get which was a Sempron 140 2.7GHz 1MB L2 Cache AM3 Socket for about 32.99 It has a second core on it that can be unlocked and can be overclocked to a decent setting.

Also, I am going to most likely be rolling with 1280x720p or whatever I can use. Not really too worried about 1080p. It's only a 17" LCD Monitor. So I figured this should set me up to be able to play in high settings in FFXIV. Guess we'll see in a day or two when I run benchmark.

Sempron 140 + ATI Radeon HD 4650 running Metro 2033 (Overtook Crysis as PC Benchmark)

Does it? That's interesting...not being a smart ass, just that the Pentium 4s are really outdated for main stream gaming nowadays. Pairing the 5770 with a Pentium 4 is like using tricycle wheels on a Porsche. Should always go for a balanced approach when building a PC IMO.

But still, I would like to see how it goes, just for interests sake.

In the benchmark thread I ran it on a P4 3.2ghz with a 8600GT and like 1.25gb of ram. It was shittastic, but it did run. Also loaded the alpha client (in a remote desktop session no less) but that was as far as my SE credentials get me.

Thanks for that. Card should arrive tomorrow by 5pm since I ordered it Wednesday so I should have my numbers up and ready to go. With more RAM I bet you would've scored pretty well. And the fact the Alpha client works in a Remote Desktop session lol... that's very good news. Okay I'll keep you posted and then hopefully you can put my numbers on the chart to represent the old school computers. Mmmm Subway. Am I the only one who ordered the CE + SE for the key items? I just want to have access to everything this time around :/

I'd imagine you're one of very few if not the only one to have ordered both.

I was under the impression that you had to register the codes for the in-game items before making a character to get them on that character. Therefore even ordering both means you can only both items on one character after the 8 days advance playing and they SE arrives.

I think they also said the items were quite limited in usefulness and were more for aesthetics than doing much. I'd save your money and cancel one if I were you.

If you don't mind buying both editions, why on earth don't you buy a better processor instead? Does that P4 have sentimental value?

Sorry had a quick question. I'm years removed from building a computer and embarrassingly out of the loop when it comes to new technology. So rather then going through the process of building one, I want to just get a quick, cheap computer that will run this decently for the time being. Do you guys think this will hold up? I'm thinking it may also need a new card, not sure if the one with it is decent.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+...&skuId=9974337

    Intel® Core™ i7-860 processor
    8GB DDR3 memory
    ATI Radeon 5770 graphics
Edit: Also, what would you guys prefer to play with screen wise. I have a big screen T.V I can hook it up to. Also, I have a chance to purchase some monitors for cheap. Seeing the duel monitor set up really perked my interest. So I was tempted to get three 23 inch monitors.

It meets the requirements, I am not a fan of gateway since they spent their life being known for selling refurbished parts as new.

Yeah, I've never used a Gateway myself. Just I live in a small town and I saw that particular computer at a Best Buy close to me. Otherwise I will have to search online to get one. Just not sure whats the best place for decent deals.

Good to know that it will at least scrape by. Many thanks

Edit: Saw this one. Extremely cheap, but it looks like a better processor? Also, I've always preferred Nvidia but like I said, I'd still prolly change the card. Which is why my main priority has been a good processor.

Well I could be ignorant and answer with why fix something that isn't broken but I bought the ATI 5770 and the WD Caviar Black for a computer build that I will have soon before the game actually releases. I am just trying to max out this old system to see if there's still hope for those with single-processors still. Everyone is thinking they have to spend $500.00 or more to upgrade their current gen computer and they may not have to.

This is a Dell prefab so I can't overclock anything on it or adjust anything except on the ATI 5770 with Overdrive and other mods. I just want to establish a base minimum with my system on the chart so people don't have to spend tons of money. I only invested the cost of the Graphics card in this system overall, didn't need the HD already have a 7200 rpm 80gb but 8MB cache, came with system.

System looks great. No monitor and no graphics card though so I say that price is actually really high. Building your own system would be better. What are the stats of your current system? Also that 310 which I think is integrated, and the 220/240 are trash and rank in the 80s compared to the ATI 5770 ranked at #25 out of the top 258 here Overclock.net Graphics Card Ranking. I dunno man, no monitor either I think that price is steep.

Also CPU Rankings can be seen here: CPU Benchmark. I am trying to pump out the max out of my dinosaur system to see how it handles the benchmark but for future proof, get a motherboard with at least usb 3.0/2 PCI Express slots and the lowest model of a AMD Phenom II x6 or Intel i7 processor. And a ATI 5770 at the very minimum. 5830 isn't a bad low end card either, does better than the 5770 by a little bit. I recommend a 5770 for any old systems that have a 400 watt power supply.

Using a laptop atm (pretty shitty one. Actually considered getting a laptop for this game but I predict it would be over $2500 to run the bare minimum) and a desktop I built for xi. Just been so long since I've built a computer or even kept up with the updates. Haven't really been into computer games or anything since I quit XI years ago and figured I never would be again.

Ha, I'd hate to derail a topic to a "what should I buy". Just don't want to waste more money then I need to.

Edit: thanks for the info. Yeah the 310 type stuff is what confuses me. Back when I last used this stuff the graphics cards were numbered by thousands so the new ones just mess with me. That list is kick ass! Will save me much time.
