the 470 supposedly gets really hot and is loud. See this:

He'll say it's the better choice because it isn't as gimped as the 460...and that he has one, so it has to be the best bang for buck GPU.
The GTX 460 is a very good GPU from what I've read. Stock wise, they're in between the 5830 and 5850. But their beauty lies in how well they overclock, and how they scale nearly 100% with SLI. Every GTX 460 can reach and exceed 5850 performance by overclocking, and you don't need to worry about the temperature as they're very efficient when compared to the G100 lineup (470, 465 and 480).
The one i bought last night is no louder than the 8800 I replaced, and didn't seem to be abnormally hot in a way I would care about. When you say, "they run hot", in what way does that matter unless you're seriously overclocking it (I bet 90% don't). Obviously it stays "cool" enough to run fine else they wouldn't sell them.
runs hot matters for people who might have smaller cases, a GPU that idles in the 80C+ range (for ex.) is going to raise internal case temps which raises temps on all sorts of stuff. some people have worse cooling solutions than others too, and this could matter for them as well.
So uh. Does this mean I should wait a week or two to pony up for the i7-870 or is the i7 930 fine for like 80 bucks less?
can try one of these if heat is your worry :s
.... if u got a liquid cool system

From my understanding, the story with the 470 is that an overclocked 470 is better than an overclocked 5870, but the 5870 is better at stock speeds. I'm not sure why that chart shows it the other way around. Also, for heat issues with the 470, you might want to look into this:

It has an alternate cooling system so it runs significantly cooler than a regular 470. I don't have one yet, but it has very good reviews and few complaints.
There is 0 reason to be using Windows XP anymore.
So how is a video card affected by resolution. I have 2 24" monitors, both running at 1920x1200. I plan on only gaming on one of the monitors and the other one will have a browser or something opened on it.
So if I were to get a video card to support these 2 monitors, what would I want in my video card? Will more memory help in supporting dual screens?
Higher resolution will chew up your video RAM, yeah. 1GB model GPUs is what I would shoot for if you're gunning for the 1920x1200+ resolutions.
it has to if they are pushing 3D surround. there's no single card that can do 3d on 3 displays at once
Quick question, I was thinking about purchasing the Intel X-25M 160GB SSD as I'm getting a good offer for one. ($300 brand new sealed retail version) Before I make the investment in an SSD, was just wondering if anyone would mind listing the benefits of having an SSD for FF14?
it won't make it run faster just load zones faster and start up faster.
