Maximum temp for your processor is 74C, so you should probably stay at 60C or below. Before you do anything else, get a better HSF. Then you can potentially give it a minor Vcore boost. In the meantime, you should google around for good AMD overclocking guides. The Phenom OC guides will do a good job of explaining the chipset voltage tweaks you might need (if you need any at all) but the Vcore will obviously be different since you have an Athlon II x2. I'm not comfortable giving you voltage recommendations since it's been a while since I've OC'd anything on the AMD side. The last AMD processor I messed with that was of any consequence was the 720 BE. I'm considering going over to Microcenter to pick up a 1055T and 890-based motherboard just to brush up on the AMD-isms.

would a i7 930 and a nvidia 470gtx run this game on high pretty well? probably 6gb ram too.

Short answer: yes. Long answer... yes. But, as has been pointed out previously, the GTX470's days are numbered. They're not being produced anymore. NVIDIA is letting parters' stock dwindle before launching its successor.

Actually, I believe the GTX470 chips are sill being produced. Nvidia simply isn't making any more GTX 470 reference PCBs, and is allowing other companies to produce non-reference cards using their GTX 470 chip and RAM.

okay, well what system could run this game reasonably well? both items are $300, what would be worth more like $250 each and still be good?

The GTX 470 may be being produced in small quantities, but it's definitely not in the mainstream for Nvidia anymore. They recently just announced another price slash for the 470 and 465. They want to get rid of those stocks before launching another model/line up. GTX 470 will be done by the end of the year.

Arround a little less than a year ago I bought a new computer: 8400 Quad Core 2.66, 6G DDR3 and GTX 275 to play Aion in great conditions.

I had no idea FFXIV will be released so soon and that it would requiere such a powerfull PC to be ran in GREAT conditions.

So ive been wondering how I could upgrade my PC for "cheap" (~$300) to gain a little performance. (I score 2600-2700 at bench in high res.)

When you say the 470 price is gonna crash by the end of the year you have any idea by how much? 50% ? If so I guess that dual 470 could be a sick upgrade for a decent price.. Would probably result in a CPU bottleneck though?

    Any thought?

So should we expect to see these new nvidia 475s before 14's release date?

Not that high of a price drop Currently, 470s are going for $350 (CAD). Reports are indicating that they will drop $30-40, depending on manufacturer and dealer. So basically $100 more then the factory overclocked GTX 460 models.

Somewhere around the end of summer or when stock of the GTX470 has sufficiently dwindled. The GTX460 was purposely gimped so that NVIDIA would have the ability to ship a 475 replacement with 384 cores enabled (the 460 has 384 but 1 SM is deliberately disabled to limit it to 336 CUDA cores) once the stock of 470s had been reduced -- NVIDIA doesn't want to piss off partners by leaving them with huge volumes of a card they cannot sell, especially when they've already had so many exclusive partners jump ship to AMD.

I have a Q6600 at 3.0 and when I used a HD 5770, I scored about 2400 on high res. Then I switched to an HD 5850 and it jumped up to 3950 on high. So maybe that would give you the boost you're looking for. The 5850's are like right at 300 bucks, also.

Done some reading and it doesn't seem to make such a BIG difference

I guess im gonna have to be reasonable and wait 6-12 months to get a nice upgrade for decent money. I need at least a 5870 to get a serious upgrade and it's too much money given I already have a decent card.

I'm not sure how much of a difference there is between your processor and mine. Mine was originally a 2.4 and I got it overclocked to 3.0. (not sure if you can overclock yours or no)

I thought mine would bottleneck the card too, and it seems to be okay. The card only gets up to like 70% usage though, so I think the processor is clogging it up a little bit. But it still gave me a huge increase.

Plus, I got the 5850, so that in a year or two when I save up enough to get a whole new machine, I can just get a second 5850 with the machine and run them in crossfire. At least thats how I justified it. haha But for the time being, I think it bought be a lot of time.

It really depends on the person. GTX 460 is the better value card, and it overclocks very well, even with stock cooling from most manufacturers.

If money isn't a huge issue, and you're not anal about temps, the GTX 470 is a good GPU. And with another price drop, it's definitely something to take another look at. It also overclocks well, but the fan speed noise and temps could pose a problem for some.

Looks like a 15% performance difference in 3DMark Vantage. More charts on the other pages. All stock setting on the GPUS I think.

Ah I see. Well real talk: what mobo would anyone recommend for a i7 930 and either a 460 or 470 if I'm thinking about Ocing it?

    4GB ram
    ATI HD 5770

For me game is working pretty good, with gamepad the controls are smooth and graphic is brilliant anyway!! Cant wait for the release
