I didn't notice shit going from 10.9 to 10.10:
- Flickering trees still there
- Selfshadows being fucked up still there (stripes)
- Left top pixel switching between white/dark grey(? at least a colour it isn't supposed to be)/actual proper colour still there
The pixel thing is supposed to be an old catalyst 8.1 driver issue which was fixed since then, but it still fucks up in FFXIV and only in FFXIV on my PC, not in other games. So I guess it's just a FFXIV issue.
I recently got news of my FAFSA coming in for 3k, but I can only spend about half of it on a new comp. With about $1500, can I get a comp that can run FFXIV well? I want to play but I want it to look good.![]()
Pretty sure this goes here...
Right now my computer is pulling a 2099 on the benchmark with the following on low resolution
Vista x64
4Gb RAM
Intel 2.4 gHz Dual Processor
ATI Diamond 5770 1Gb GPU with HDMI connection
Iirc this score is actually lower than when I was using a BFG Tech nVidia 8800 GT OC. Funny thing is that I scored higher, a 2290, on the High Res. The game seems to run better with the new card but I dunno if that's just placebo effect. I'll try downloading the new drivers I suppose. =/
Installed the game couple of days ago, tried many type of configurations but even with the lowest settings the game is quite slow and laggy, in cities NPCs take 30-60sec to appear.
PC:
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 32bit
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5400 Series 1GB
Game settings are:
"Display Mode" Full Screen
"Window Size" 1280x800
"Multisampling" No AA
"Buffer Size" Resolution
"Shadow Detail" Lowest
"Ambient Occlusion" off
"Depth of Field" off
"Texture Quality" low
"Texture Filtering" Lowest
"Character Shadows" OFF
"Dust Effects" OFF
"Extended Drawing" OFF
"Physics" OFF
Is there anything I could try to improve performance? or should I upgrade something on my pc?
thx a lot
what makes the ATI radeon 5670 a bad card? it seems to run fine on my pc. I've been thinking of buying a 5850 or 5870, but would it improve the gameplay settings on ffxiv?
until we see major optimizations you will notice an increase every time you buy a better card.
What program do you guys use for GPU monitoring? To see the extent which the gpu is being used, that is. Also, my AMD Athlon II X4 605, according to CPU-Z, during playing FFXIV (although I've not played for more than an hour or so on this new comp) has never gone above 12C; this makes me wonder if the temps you guys post for your CPUs are all OC'd, and that this could be OC'd safely, or if I'm not setting something correctly. Is there some condition that I could try (going into some crowded area or something) that would, I guess, stress test the CPU and see what its real max temp would be before trying to OC?
unless you have thermoelectric cooling what you describe is impossible. (12c on something as needy as FFXIV just doesnt happen). phase cooling would still be subzero. I use CPU-Z adapted for EVGA products.
Well then, the program I've been using (I was mistaken; it wasn't CPU-Z but Core Temp) must be retarded or something, I don't know much about these things; The room that I keep my computer/xbox/etc. in isn't well insulated so it's basically 40-50 degrees F, so I figured it was plausible, shows what I know.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I'm reading this right. This is saying it is currently at its highest since I turned it on (just a few minutes before) at 9C?

download cpu-z or something, it is clearly reading wrong, it may be your motherboard though. some motherboards to not give proper temps
Yeah, I just did some googling, though I have CPU-Z and I don't see a temp reading on there anywhereIn any case, I tried CPUID's HWMonitor...
Spoiler: show
and some google results said HWM is terrible, others said just ignore TMPIN2. I don't know enough to be worried about anything.
Also, thanks for replies Cool.
those temps seem very odd. what motherboard are you using? If your room is at 40F (4-5c) you should be seeing 5-10c increase at idle. Full load you could be looking at 15-35+c increase.
Atm, my room is 23c, my semi idle temps are 30c. This is with a tiny water cooling unit on the processor (Corsair H70).
Asus M4A77TD.
Here's a pic with everything CPU-Z says

If you are just looking for Usage % and temp on the GPU only I would just use the Catalyst Control Center. Go to the Overdrive section (even if it is still locked) and it will show both readings. I have never had a problem with it mis-reporting before.
Didn't really want to start a new thread for this yet, figured I'd ask here first...I'm looking into buying PC parts starting at the end of this month to build a new one...I don't currently play XIV and am not looking to build one specifically just for playing it, but if I can make one for standard everyday use that happens to be able to run XIV well on relatively high settings just in case I decide to pick it up I'd be pretty happy.
I haven't played since beta, I know that they upped the setting options a little but I have no idea what the actual system requirements are to run the game, much less to actually run it in a good-looking fashion at high FPS. I'll probably have about $700-800 total to spend overall, if anyone can fill me in as to the basic specs I should be looking for and/or recommend some specific parts for me to have a look at I'd appreciate it.
any case 100-200
any motherboard supporting i7 100-200
i7 930 - 200
GPU - 250
ram (6gb) - 100-200
HD (7200) - 50-200
If you are frugal you can make your goal and have a sytem that runs ffxi on medium+ settings and it will look great.
