I didn't wanna start a new thread for this, but why does this game run like fucking shit on a very high end computer? As I'm running through Ul'dah, I'm chopping around all over the place. One second the shit is smooth, but the second I start moving, the shit chops all over the place.
i7 930 @ 4.0 ghz
Radeon 5870 2gb
Intel 510 SSD 120GB
Windows 7 x64 (recently installed)
12 GB RAM
Is this an ATI problem?
Optimisation problem afaik. Happens to me with 920 and CF 5770, it smooths out after I've been in town for a while but at first it's incredibly stuttery. Might be the number of people or the fact that it's a town (they always seem to work differently to outside areas even with low pop)
Yeah the game has all sorts of problems with that. It's had off an on problems with nvidia and ATI cards of different natures. I've been lucky enough to not have any issues with my 5850. I have the same problem in town but I had attributed it to having a regular hard drive. Once everything loads it smooths out for me, the only other time I have issues is Limsa in the rain but I think that's just my video card not being good enough. That said the most crowded areas in Uldah are enough to bring my 2600k @4.5 down into the low 50s in fps even once everything is loaded (the game seems to do most everything related to player models on the CPU for whatever reason). The game is just horribly optimized atm, hopefully they eventually fix it. :/
So I'm trying to figure out whether or not my laptop can play this game because the benchmark crashes and never plays anything on either mode I select.
Here's what I can glean as far as specs go (Note that I might be slightly retarded as far as hardware goes, we'll see):
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i3 CPU M370 @ 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
Graphic Device: Intel HD Graphics
Driver Version: 8.15.0010.2141
Video Memory: 64MB
Shared Video Memory: 1632MB
DirectX 11 installed, drivers should be updated.
Am I totally missing something here? I had heard this game was more dependent on the CPU than graphics cards, but this shit won't run.
Intel HD Graphics (Integrated) so no, and game isn't more dependant on CPU afaik
Are there pretty good (and hopefully cheap) options for external GPU?
Yeah it's the intel graphics. The game is CPU intensive but you do still need a decent video card too.
It is technically possible to use an external GPU on a laptop but you'd need to buy a special dock that costs like $300, and then the GPU. Even then it won't perform as well as the same card in a PC because the docks have limited bandwidth due to the interface. I don't have any personal experience using one of these, maybe someone else here can chime in.
http://www.villageinstruments.com/ti...hp?page=ViDock if you're still interested, but I don't know if I'd spend the money when you could just about get the rest of the parts for a desktop PC for the price of the dock and then just put the gpu in that and have it perform better. Plus it looks like you need an external monitor for these docks to work. ><
Just got setup with a HD6950 from a HD5750, here are my settings, 1280x720, 16xQ CSAA Samping, Draw Quality 9, BG Draw Quality 3, Shadow Standard, AA Off, DoF Off, Texture Quality High/Filtering Highest.
60 FPS in the field, 40 FPS in cities. HNNNNGG>
What CPU are you running? Due to the game's lovely optimization, unless it's something like a 2500k/2600k @4.5 or greater, you're going to get some fps drop in cities. Even then, the busiest areas in Uldah will cause some fps loss. :/
Also, FPS in cities will improve after you have been in them for a while from my experience (unless moving to a new area of the city). They are very very laggy/stuttery for me at first, but are just as good as out in the field after a while.
You should be able to play at 1920x1080 with AAx2~4 though.
I'm taking apart my current computer to build a new one, how well do you think this setup will run FF14?
AMD Phenom II x6 1045T Processor
8G memory
Silencer 750w
xfx hd radeon HD 6950
Is the 1045T from your old PC or are you just sticking with AMD? Because Intel are currently more powerful.
But that should be able to play XIV fine (well, as fine as any non-6990 etc PC).
Izzy,
I know this reply is a month later but we have nearly identical systems (only differences are i'm on an i7-950 but an OCZ SSD) and the game has improved slightly in the last two patches, but it is still fucking ridiculous for boxes like these. I finally admitted to myself that it sucked and bumped a few settings down from Highest to Standard (AA, shadows, etc) and there's a pretty big difference especially during weather, but I'm still not happy with it. Hopefully with "the next big patch" it keeps getting better, but I think it needs a lot more of an overhaul than it's getting.
edit: this is at 1920x1080
Bit of a generic post here, so rather than making my own thread, are there any recommendations for a laptop that could push the game to full settings? My current laptop can struggle with it, but suffers from overheating, so I'm just going to upgrade. I'm not considering a desktop, as I know my tendencies and need mobility from room to room. I'm willing to go up to $2000 or more if necessary, but of course the more affordable the better. Thanks ahead for any suggestions.
