Looking to buy a Desktop

Anyone have an opinion on ibuypower? They allow you to customize everything, and looking at cost compared to building it yourself it does not seem outrageous. You alse get a 3 year warranty on desktops. EDIT: As far as ordering off newegg is it possible to have the stuff sent to the postoffice? Wouldn't want a crackhead stealing my shit lol.

Don't do ibuypower. I ordered my old PC from them and it started having problems after the first year. They use cheap components. Use avadirect, the extra you'll have to pay (which isn't a lot, probably like $50~150 more than buying it all yourself) will be worth it. They use off-the-shelf parts.

I have heard a lot of bad about ibuypower it seems. Avadirect looks good so will probably be either that or custom. Going to wait until windows 7, new cards with dx11, ect personally.

Personally have heard a lot of bad things about ibuypower. Bad support and not getting the products they ordered ect. Also, have heard good things though. It's a case by case thing I guess.

If you can wait a few months, not only will the new dx11 cards be coming out, but also intel's new line of i5, i7, and i9 (maybe idk). Even if you don't want to spend more for brand new tech, the older stuff should drop in price.

I've also heard bad things about ibuypower and cyberpowerpc where either things were dead, or not even fully connected (power connections not in place, cards halfway in). I also hear they have bad customer service.

If you have local electronics stores around, local owned shops not like best buy or fry's, you can try asking them if they'd be willing to build the computer for you. You can shop around for parts on newegg or etc, asking here for advice. If needed, I wouldn't mind doing that for you, picking out parts, if you give a budget. Then you can have it all shipped to your house and bring it into the store and watch them. I'd stick around and watch, just incase and also, so you can learn (shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to assemble). I bet if you go into a local community college and ask around the tech department, you'd find someone that'd help you out if you pay something like $50. I'd do it for fun lol.

If you feel too uncomfortable with building the pc yourself, use avadirect.com. There you can pick all the parts yourself so you can make sure everything is quality. It'll be a bit more expensive than building it yourself but it's worth it. That's where I'm getting my new PC from. Was convinced after my friends ordered his from them.

they were rated super high on hardocp for the builds, very high quality and very good service, they pay for immediate shipping if the PC needs to come back, they are a little expensive but the price is worth it for the service you get

NeoGAF has a couple very nice threads for people who are looking to build a very capable gaming PC. I'd recommend taking a look through them if you're thinking about getting a new computer soon as they can save you a lot of money if you're new to building PCs.

Some of the combo deals are dead, so you may end up paying a little extra, but the $500 build in the OP should be more than capable of running FFXIV (or any game besides maybe Crysis) at max or near-max settings at 1680x1050. There's also a few suggestions for people who want to play at higher resolutions and a youtube link on how to put together the PC.

The OP in this thread isn't as up to date as the other, but it does have some nice information. And even though the thread is super long I'd recommend skimming through at least the most recent pages. There are some suggestions for both medium and high end PCs, depending on your budget.


Chances are you won't need a super expensive PC to max out FFXIV. Unless you feel the need to play the game at 1920x1200 at 100+ FPS, paying anything more than $800-$1000 for a gaming PC is probably a little overkill. And as others have said, if you can wait a little while, you'll probably be able to get a better computer for a better price.
