Maybe they thought he would just respawn?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

haha no imperialistic values are quite a bit different. what with the whole castes and emperor is god incarnate, etc. nothing about everyone's equal, everyone must be the same.

Addiction is just that, an addiction.

You can't expect a kid to stop using drugs because you tell him to stop and take them away can you?

It depends on the situation I suppose. If he was just sitting online for 4 hours a day that's one thing. If he sat there 24 hours a day despite his parents' best efforts to prevent it, then that's completely different. Both Archi and Ksandra have valid points it just depends on the circumstances.

Regardless, it sucks the kid had to die over it. I also had to laugh a bit at the camp director saying it was just a fever when the kid is all bloody and bruised.

Currently we are a democracy, but you'd be retarded if you think all our values are democratic. if we did kids wouldn't have homework/tests/schools/etc...

they have had a communist party since the 20s, usually that means because there was a previous sense of comministic values that enough people supported.

note: incase you didn't get it Communism =/= communistic values

Internet addiction or not, I don't know what the parents were expecting sending their kid to a place where the back alley definition of a boot camp is physical abuse to build discipline.

But yeah killing the kid isn't exactly discipline either.

Of course it is. He won't be logging on again, that's for sure. It's just not the solution to his problem that people were expecting.

I don't think there are "camps" or programs for "internet addiction" specifically, but I've seen stuff on Dr Phil etc (no, I don't watch the show, only see stuff that's linked from gamer blogs about it ) about rehab clinics and work camps that are designed for rehab patients of any variety, and they've admitted "internet addicted" kids.

    Firas- Wow. Just wow.

The true irony is that these boot camps exist so that those kids suposedly won't sit in front of a computer and die playing starcraft. Somehow dying while playing Starcraft seems much better than being beat to death for having played Starcraft.

This isn't Korea. They don't play Starcraft in China, either. No profit in it!

Then again, if it were Korea, the story would have been about parents who sent their athletic kid with a sun and physical activity addiction to Starcraft Bootcamp where he was beat to death for not microing well enough.

I think everyone in this thread is missing the point entirely. I don't think the kid is addicted to the internet anymore, so clearly the camp did what it said it would

I guess canceling the internet to the house was completely out of the question. Or taking their kids computer away? So many other options besides "boot camp". I still believe, awful parents.
