and pretty accurate too
in some of the earlier interviews didn't they also mention we will see similiar beastmen as in ffxi
Someone on GAF forums made a MS Paint mockup of what the world map might look like:

Seems pretty decent given the information that we have on the game.
I signed up for the newsletter before, never received an e-mail. Clicking the "Register Now!" link doesn't do anything, even with NoScript allowing everything. I load the page in IE, and it doesn't even think I have Flash installed. >.>
Yeah it hasn't been working since late last night. As mentioned before, I too am signed up for the newsletter but did not receive anything.
So let's get this straight.
The game takes place in a world inhabited by 5 races copied from FFXI. The lead up point of the plot where the players step in is predicated by a once great nation being destroyed by an attacking force, which causes the races to unify resulting in an age of adventure. One of the main cities was built by destitute fisherman and is now a shining city on the sea whose bridges span across the terrain. They even kept the same unit of distances from FFXI.
No wonder they were able to crack this sucker out so fast, it seems like essentially FFXI with the particulars remixed. I suppose that could still be a good thing. It's just that the similarities are striking (and maybe a littleuncreative). Perhaps it is superficial and will be very different in the game however.
With that being said, I'm still lukewarm on this whole idea. If I had been shown everything available so far excluding the races and the chocobo shot I would probably never guess this was a Final Fantasy title. The whole thing comes off very generic to me honestly. Most of all the unpalatable religious speech.
I hope there will be more to see of FFXIV that really makes it stand out as a FF game. The "high technology" mentioned would be great. Among all the RPG series that try to mix fantasy with technology, FF probably does it the best. I'm also interested to hear more about the Garlean Empire as I've always been a sucker for those kinds of plots (as opposed to merely Beastmen or some villain with supernatural powers).
I got mine at 10:05 central time, so I think it just hates certain people, or maybe it has already selected the few who will be in the beta !!!!
Anyway, site runs much smoother now, in case you haven't gotten to see the rest of the site yet.
Truly "storyline" is the hardest part of making a videogame. They got their work cut out for them.No wonder they were able to crack this sucker out so fast
Yeah, I don't understand why they suddenly started using a new setting for the sequel. It will only confuse people! If I had been shown everything available so far excluding the races and the chocobo shot I would probably never guess this was a Final Fantasy title.
Yeah they said this in the very first interview. How did you not have fun playing with people all around the world regardless of console/language? I think that was one of the strong points of the game.
