    I remember how everyone seems to jump to 'the graphics in that trailer were pre rendered/none of it is real time'...well the first new screenshot clearly shows that aside the obvious CG portions, there's not that much loss between in game and CG..

    If anything, FFXIV will be the prettiest MMO out to date.

    Hmm, info is sorta lacking. I am hoping they update the rest of the disciplines soon. Since Gladiator caught my eye and I am curious if there will be more than 3 disciplines of magic. (Assuming the 3 off the top of my head will be BLM/WHM/SMN counterparts).

    Though yeah, Gladiator and Lancer look like they'll be my primary focus.

    Don't you have the feeling that most of their work is CTRL-C / CTRL-V from FF11? From the latest update we can say that:

    Disciples = Jobs

    WAR:
    - Archer (FF14) = Ranger (FF11)

    Someone didn't read the interview with Komoto-san following E3 (or was it Gamescon? I honestly forget, it's hard to keep track.)

    They are avoid specific jobs entirely. Gladiator is not PLD, nor will this game have a WHM etc etc; They have classes with specific skills yes, but they are doing everything they can to avoid people entering specific roles when selecting a class.

    They want you to build up your skills and combine them in such a way as to create your own class. The Gladiator for example, has provoke now (and Provoke II apparently from 1 of the gamescon screen shots) but no white magic to speak of; thus it's neither PLD nor WAR.

    Lancer doesn't have a wyvern, and there wasn't even any mentioning of jumps. Archer's description explicitly states they use shortbows, though it does also they are masters of the bow in every form now as well.


    So no, the jobs in XI aren't coming back. We have a lot of classes which have skills based on said jobs, but they are still different. There's nothing indicating that the pugilist for example, will have abilities like kick attacks, chi blast or chakra; all we know is they focus on baghnacks. (God I hate that word)



    What I would bet on however, is down the line through updates we'll either see some of these classic jobs come back, or more likely be able to acquire skill or gear that lets you modify your basic class into one of these jobs. For instance a Lancer could perhaps be given the option to learn about jumps and/or dragons and eventually gain Dragoon as a sub-class.

    I'm so happy that this time around SE is going to add new classes via the version updates instead of the major expansions. I always wondered why the fuck they couldn't do this with XI, but I don't care anymore because while I <3 XI, I'm done with the game.

    Oh yeah you're spot on about the crafting professions, but the "jobs" of XI are staying right where they are. Though I imagine with the way this class system is set up, if you so desire you can still set your skills in such a manner as to re-create those jobs, in which case I am all over ranged attacks + black or white magic.

    Also interesting from the lifestyle section was the bazaar system. It looks like buyers and sellers can negotiate prices for bazaar items.

    I'm not sure but I also have an impression that you can sell things to retailers, and they then sell them for you. This would replace the AH.

    Yep. So looks like harvesting is getting a lift in status.

    Also: a thaumaturgist is a miracle worker according to Webster's. It looks like the class name for mages, rather than just BLMs.

    The botanist is holding an axe in the picture. Perhaps this gatherer will deal with plants of any kind, from herbs to trees. I would be very happy if there was gardening thrown into this mix as well.

    I'm starting to think you may need to have a special knife for a harvesting type job to get meat/skin from animals you kill... I can see SE doing it...

    Someone quoted what ffxiv is running on, something about crystal engine...? Where as it does like realtime rendering effects or something thats high quality... So what we see in the "videos they make" is probably close.. if not almost same as ingame graphics (if you got the PC to handle/survive that kind of quality)

    So Cutriss and I were talking and it seems like they're going to use the crystal catalyst system from FFXI in crafting in this game as well. The new update mentions the character needing an elemental crystal to start cooking.

    It also mentions that initially she needed to insert ingredients individually, but after a certain number of synths, she just had to throw everything at once like selecting a recipe in WoW or Aion. It also mentions having a recipe book to corroborate that.

    Also the return of mithkabobs.

    Not at all.

    Although I would say that the Hand disciples will all be support jobs with some melee capabilities. Such as;

    Weaver = Temporarily "weaves" Enchantments on armor, such as slight resist boost etc.
    Blacksmith = Temporarily strenghtens weapons to improve their damage or change element type
    Culinarian = Keeps members "fed" to improve their stats temporarily
    Tanner = Debuffs enemies with the use of traps

    At least that's what the FFXIV site makes it sound like they would do.

    I might as well still make use of this post. In terms of additional information.. I'm in love with it all. I get the where they're going with the open ended class and it's really a clever idea. In FFXI you were always defined by your gear imo and other parts of your job were much like or almost like another player depending on your merits. Now it seems like a good mix of both. I wasn't too sure how this was going to play out, but I think it's more and more brilliant with the more info that is leaked.

    Now you people can possibly get your Time Mages, Vikings, or Necromancers (lol yarly) depending on how you train yourself.

    Except the website specifically mentions selling individual wares. Also mentions Leeroy doing this smithing AFTER his battling for the day.
