Anyone ever wonder if this is just a publicity stunt by SquareENIX to get more people to buy their security tokens?
YOU WILL STILL YOUR GAME!
I bet tons of people fall for this
Yeah, several people will fall for this. There was a guy on KI/GameFAQs last month who received an email from support@ playonline.com asking for his PW, etc. He seriously considered responding it.
It was well-written though.
Some of the email spam that I get into the quarantine area is really well done; There is usually at least one per week that needs more then a glance to judge its validity.
Lol, actually have one sitting here. Its a paypal authorization form; its using all the correct corporate logos and everything, even doing the right mouseovers and links to paypals legal pages. The only way to tell is that the post method on the form goes to some random not paypal domain.
They have all the time in the world to try and scam us. However, some have learned to spell check better then others.Originally Posted by Phishing Email

Dearest one,
My name is Mrs Maria Powell. I was born in Ghana. I am
married to Mr. Powell who worked with Ghana embassy in
United Kingdom for nine years before he died in the year
2005. We were married for eleven years without a child. He
died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days
Before his death we were both born again Christians. Since his
death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my
matrimonial home. When my late husband was alive he
deposited the sum of $4.Million in a Bank herre Ghana.
And Recently, My Doctor told me that I would not last for
the next six months due to my cancer problem (cancer of the
lever and stroke). Presently this money is still in the Bank.
Having known my condition I am in need of a HONEST Hearted
Individual Christian or Temple that will utilize this fund
the way I am going to instruct herein.
I want somebody that will use this fund according to the
desire of my late husband to help Less privileged people,
orphanages, widows and propagating the word of God.
I took this decision because I don't have any child that
will inherit this fund, And I don't want in away where this
money will be used in an ungodly way. This is why I am
taking this decision to hand you over this Fund.
I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going.I
want you to always remember me in your daily prayers because
of my up coming Cancer Surgery.
Write back to me as soon as possible because any delay in
your reply will give me room in sourcing another person for
this same purpose, Hoping to hear from you soon.
With God all things are possible. As soon as I receive your
reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank in Ghana.
I will also issue you an authorization letter that
will prove you the present beneficiary of this fund. You can
contact me with this Alternative

God bless you as you listening to the voice of reasoning,
May God Bless From,
Mrs . Maria Powell
Just got an e-mail through POL mail. - Killing Ifrit
Perhaps the funniest part is that a GM actually tells him that the mail seems legit.

The thing is that when you constantly go to a specific site that requires login, at some point you become oblivious to the text and notice things like bad grammar in text especially if it is in smaller than average print size. Let's face it, there aren't a lot of computer savvy people who would know about checking the url, they just see a page and assume it is legit because it looks the same. There are others such as url's that look similar in spelling, and people fall for it because they don't really pay close attention. Something like playonline being represented in a click-able link but really saying playonIine. If you are running larger resolutions that I can look similar to an l at first glance.
A person that may not have visited the community linkshell website before might look at that link and possibly think that it is legit, especially if they have never visited the playonline website. Then again, the person who sent the tell didn't have a [GM] tag so of course that should be blatantly obvious, but maybe not to those who are new to the game and never received or heard about [GM]'s before. You already cannot display websites in your bazaar or search comments as it is and it will be a matter of time before SE creates some kind of filter for sites not being allowed to display thru chat, except for GM's only.
