unless you have a few days beforehand though, incense. potpourri kind of takes a while to get the scent going and works best in small spaces, unless it's the kind that you put the scented oil on and heat.

if you're really being serious, you ought to look into a room and sheet/pillow spritz. some of those come in really nice scents and they're not overpowering like incense can be. bath and body works has some good ones.
