Well, in the least, when I get ebisu, I'll be more apt to fish them. Since I have to log on my bro's character to repair rods, it's kind of inconvenient, and I have to plan around his schedule. Being able to do it all by myself = I can go out there any time I want on a whim.

Edit: But seeing what you just said still gives me more encouragement to go out and fish, and not put it off thinking "I don't want to waste ring charges on Lu's, I'll wait for Ebisu."

I thought mooching just gave the bait the added effect, not that you needed it to actually catch fish. Like you can catch Gugs and Liks just fine without it, you just don't get the bonus to the bait.

For the record, Mooching on Wiki says

This key item increases the amount of time you have to land your catch when fishing with Drill Calamary or Dwarf Pugil bait. It does not function with any other bait/lure. The special bait and the key item are intended to be used together to catch Gugrusaurus and Lik for the Indomitable Spirit quest, fish which normally only permit you a very short amount of time to catch them.

Someone about 10-15 pages back got Mooching out of pure boredom. Maybe you can hunt him down and ask him to test the length a Matsya is on the line with and someone else can test without.
