Hmm.. I only tossed about 1 mil at this yet, (Lik 0 / 37 Gugru 0 / 55), so I won't start serious bitching yet (although it's in the thread title^^). Yet, from seeing most of the reports here, it seems more economic to just level WW from 0 to 75-ish and catch them myself (and maybe de-level WW later on).

If there was any certainty that I'd get the 2 items within 500 trades, it would be no problem to just pay the gil. But seeing these poor guys 1/1000+ ... Idk how you managed to keep fighting - all my respect (and very delayed congrats!) to you all.

Figure, I'll just go and level WW, I'm not in a rush for Ebisu. And it should be cheap enough these days (i hope...).

I've avoided looking at Lik/Gugru prices on Carbuncle for the past several months, because I didn't want to become tempted to start fishing for profit again. From the looks of it, though, things have slowed to a stand-still on the AH. There could be a bunch/few people bazaaring in Selbina which would be causing this, or maybe this is how it is on all servers at the moment?

I suppose ebisu's main advantage over lu shang is still it's ability to fish up ebisu fish. If they would let those Matsya be gutted, though, ebisus might become popular again.

It depends on how much you are paying per fish, how much you could make per hour doing something else, and how many lik/gugru you'll be able to catch per hour (assuming you already have the necessary rings to catch them). If you can make enough money doing something else to buy fish, and be able to buy more than you could fish up in the same amount of time , obviously it's better to buy the fish. I don't recall offhand the average number of lik/gugru I caught per hour using lu shang, though that number goes up once you get ebisu.

Lik's have tanked on my server. I managed to sell one on AH the other day, but that's it. Somebody has them in their wanted list on ffxiah, so hopefully I can sell to them.

Got my opal silk today, 1/5 on gugs, 1/22 on liks. Should have a shiny new rod come Sunday morning! Question about the rod - I've heard that it's not as good as lu's for catching smaller fish, is there any truth to this or is it just another observational rumor?

Knock on wood here, but I'm half hoping I'll have a difficult time with my rod just so there won't be so many damn testimonials of people getting lucky. I'm 0/54 on Gugs so far and sitting on enough gil to buy 100 more once I can find someone to sell them for a reasonable price.

As a nice transition, I think that's part of the problem with getting these fish to sell. On my server, at least, fishermen are still trying to push up the prices of the fish despite the fact that they rarely sell. I'm willing to buy 100 Gugs for 15k each (and there's quite a few servers selling them for even less), but I'm just not willing to buy any for 20k when I know how much it will cost me in the long run and realizing I can find fishermen to give me the price I want. Nonetheless, even though days and sometimes weeks go buy without Gugs selling on the AH, the price never drops below 20k.

I know fishermen want to maximize profit and they have the right to (why wouldn't I know - I am a fisherman), but I think more need to realize that a more conducive price may fly them off the shelf a bit faster. Why buy 75 fish when I can buy 100? Whether the price is worth the effort is another story.

Oh, and that "smaller fish" bit sure does sound like Urat-type theorycrafting. Small fish aren't exactly hard to reel in anyway, so unless someone did some valid testing and didn't just try to "eyeball it," I wouldn't put any faith into the theory.

It looks like a standstill here too. When I wanted to buy fish desperately, there were just none on the AH for weeks. With nowhere to go, I started taking woodworking up from 0 to 70. This took me like a week, but at least it was cheap and I have no other craft levelled, so it was not painful to do. At 70 WW, I managed to repair my Lu Shang's rod with maybe 15% accuracy, sometimes going through an entire stack of crystals. Yet, it's less annoying than running to Rabao, in my mind. And it would skill-up WW a lot, eventually making it less painful to repair.

Yeah, they also added some new fish in the Abyssea zones that seem to have - to my knowledge (?) - no other use than to be NPCed yet. About Matysa... I never caught it obviously, but I don't know, if I would hand loads of it to Zaldon instead of taking the straight 25k / each.

Well, I read through this whole thread in the past days - when I was supposed to be working - and actually laughed about the superstition mentioned before.

On a funny note, did you already become paranoid? Examples:

- Check if you already got the item. (Don’t forget Mog Locker lol)
- Trade ONLY during Full Moon / New Moon
- Trade naked
- Trade naked + all your gear/stuff on your Mog House
- /bow to Zaldon before trading

While I was still in double digits, - needless to say - I didn't yet become anywhere near paranoid, yet this superstitious part interested me. Irl, I am nowhere near superstitious, but it's a game, so why not.
So I appreciated this advice, thank you^^...

I received the first item this morning using /kneel and /bow in front of Zaldon before getting ready to trade 9 fish. No, I don't really believe that there's a correlation. I may be just very lucky. Yet I figured, what's good for Odin's Chamber can't hurt for Zaldon as well. This makes me 1 / 61 on Gugrusaurus.

I went out of the house to get some air and run some errands then. After coming home I decided to trade eight more Liks that I had saved up, still reminiscent of the /kneel > / bow superstition. I wasn't even paying attention, because dinner was ready and I just wanted to get rid of these liks before leaving the room, when on the first trade...

When I finally got my saber shoot, I had bought something like 70+ gugrusauri in bulk from my supplier all at once, and got it around the 20th~ trade. Out of the remaining 50 that I sold to others, two or three people got their saber shoot as well. Wasn't sure how to feel about that!

1/84. I think Stoomie was the good luck charm! Thanks to 28 Gugs (22nd was the charm) from Solkanar. Liks await. I wouldn't mind going 1/84 on Liks (just 0/4 so far), but it sure would be disappointing to have to wait a month or more to get the guild points... 85k to go.

Just chiming in to share my experiences! I found a JP who sold both fish to me for 10k each, and I ended up going 1/9 on Lik, and 1/60ish on Gugrusaurus. I was still building GP at the time though, so I haven't been able to get the rod yet. I'll hit 95000 GP tomorrow but sadly will have to wait until next week
