Went 1/243 on Gugrus yesterday. I decided to celebrate by buying the last 300 bronze for my goldpiece.

Those that fish your own gugs, what's the max that you've caught in a day before hitting absolute fatigue? I usually go about 10 a day and calling it..and so far

    0/301 on Liks
0/1 Gugs (just testing how difficult they were to land)

Not the best start, hopefully Liks are the nasty ones for me.

Sounds like you're killbotting. Stop doing that. (Seriously, if you're going to bot, at least wait 25+ seconds to pull it in).

well i just got back in the game after about a year, so i'm playing this on my leisure time and decided to pick up fishing again. When I do play its usually after work and that only leaves me about 1-2 hrs to fish, since its hard to be on any much longer. I usually try to do at least 6 rides, but these gugs are hard to land so thats why i average about 8-13 a day. Although one time I did get like 17 then hit a soft cap and decided to not fish it anymore. Just wondering whats the hardcap for these big fish since I don't know if I usually get close to that or not. thanks.

Pretty sure I caught 70+ a couple times (not passing JP midnight) with my ebisu rod. While my recast was slightly longer, I hadn't hit my hard cap. I was just mentally exhausted.

Edit: I found a bunch of my gugru catch records on a backup. Let me give them a quick run-through.

Edit 2: Instance one: I fished for 10 hours, and caught 81 gugrusaurus.

Similarly, I also caught 85 gugrusaurus within one big fishing session (again, not surpassing JP midnight).

In both cases, I did not hit a hard fatigue; just the one that incrementally increases your recast timer (if I'm remembering accurately. I don't have records of fatigue for these sessions).

For clarity, the way I measure recast fatigue is that, once I reel in my line, I'm continually hitting my /fish macro. Without any fatigue, I will get the "You must wait longer" message x2. From what I remember in my Talacca cove days, I would begin getting a THIRD message in a row after my 120th catch (or was it 100?), and every 20 catches thereafter would add another "You must wait longer" message between recasts.

When I was fishing gugrus, I was getting some recast fatigue before 100/120 catches, but if you add in the line snaps/lost due to lack of skill/etc. "successfully drained" bites, it probably matched up. All in all, though, you don't have to worry about fatigue when catching gugrusaurus. You'll end up being fatigued in real life before your character is.

I'm not really sure why he assumed fish botting from 10/day. Maybe he thought it said 10/ferry ride?

If you force catch you fatigue faster, so if you can only catch 10 a day you're probably botting and being an idiot about it. Nobody cares if you bot, so don't try to hard to deny it if you are, just be smart about it.

Thanks Nibu, that clarified a lot of stuff. It gets discouraging when you hit a streak of broken line, broken rod, lost fish due to skill, no bites. I realize I don't fish enough so when I get a bad streak, I start thinking its a fatigue issue..now I know its normal. I'm only using a Lu Shang trying to get my ebisu, so I guess your Ebisu helps tremendously. I expect with Lu, the numbers would fall a lot shorter since ebisu lets you fish up more fish.

It's really not even worth it to fish them with lu. Find some way to make gil and buy the fish from an ebisu fisher.

Unless of course you're into the whole "I fished all my ebisu fish" thing. Hey, I fished all my moat carps for lu.

I have a bunch of Lu + Gugrusaurus data as well. Think I had the same thing for Lu + Lik, but doesn't look like it got backed up. Ah well.

A lot of it is in a text document and isn't pretty to look at, so I'll have to organize it later. Maybe tomorrow night.

In the meantime, I do have a very small sample of 12 boat trips that I put into an excel file, so it's all nice and organized.

    Total Bites: 45
    ----------------
    Catch: 16 (35.6%)
    Line snap: 19 (42.2%)
    Rod Break: 7 (15.6%)
    Lack of skill: 1 (2.2%)
Ran out of time: 2 (4.4%)

Edit: Hey! A picture! Why not!

    http://imgur.com/egYkM.jpg

This was all during a full moon. This was also 2009, and was pre-moglification; just 100 fishing skill, fishing skill+ gear, and maybe advanced support if I used it. Had my brother's character logged on and on /follow to repair my rod.

Other than the "ran out of time" bites (the numbers of which will differ according to how easy of a time you have with gugrus), I think those % are roughly what you'd expect. Again, I'll parse all the other data I have at a later time and see if that's true.

Also, taking just the small sample given, that's an average of 4 gugrus per hour. At the time, gugrus were 20k a piece, so "making" 80k an hour (in the sense I didn't have to buy them) for me was worth it. Again, this is 2009, so potential to make money, and ebisu fish prices, have likely changed, and your mileage may vary.

Edit: And yeah, I understand the discouragement that goes with this. Looking at the average gugrus per hour after the fact is nice, but in the midst of fishing it can be a drag when you get boat trips with no bites, all line breaks, etc. It's nice when those are offset with all catches, though, as rare as they are!

Edit 2: If I'm feeling particularly spunky, I could include more detailed Ebisu + gugru numbers, and figure out the average haul per hour. The numbers I gave earlier would average to 8 catches an hour, or double that of using a lu shangs. I'm not sure if this is an accurate representation, or if I simply had a good day that day, so it might be worth checking.
