Planning linkshells before the game starts?

Alright so, as the days draw near to gamescom where we'll likely see a lot more information, and perhaps a release window of beta and maybe even a loose retail release date. I was wondering what people's feelings were on organizing linkshell/guild/whatever before the game starts?

If enough people are interested in focusing on leveling up early I could start making a guild site within the upcoming months.

Mostly I just want to know what people's feelings are on starting a guild this early. What they think should be considered when attempting to start an end-game shell before the game has much information on it (ie, how much FFXI jobs/accomplishments should be factored in)

I'm not really asking if people want to form a shell right now, though if people want to then fine. I was moreso wondering what people think is important when you DO want to start a shell before a game even comes out.

This is most likely too soon as well, but do you think we will have a choice of a Server again? or do you think they will limit it again and try to even out the servers by forcing you into one again? I only ask this here so if someone does set up an LS before the game are you sure we can all get into the same server lol

Undoubtedly, as long as one server doesn't get too crowded. We have that feature in FFXI now, I don't see why they wouldn't carry it over. At the very least they would probably make another world pass system so you can get a ticket to wherever your friend lands. I'm a little apprehensive about this part myself, though. I was put on Siren in FFXI because my ex was on that server, and I couldn't be happier. Siren's got its problems but it seems (minus a resident troll or two) a lot better than a lot of the other servers (I do enjoy our lolbesieged record too). I would hate to get stuck on a server I ended up not caring for. I want to be on another good one! XD Here's hoping for free server transfers?

Speaking of which, I wonder if there will be any PVP aspect, or even enough to warrant its own server. Somehow I doubt it, this is final fantasy, PVP is sort of an afterthought for it always.

I'm a little bit iffy about the whole PvP issue. I feel that in most case, for PvP to work, the game needs to be centered around PvP itself. Kind of like how WoW is with its factions. Don't get me wrong, I think theres a small chance that SE can add some Battle arena/colosseum type thing and it'll work but... their execution with Ballista and Brener was just god awful and they need to learn from that. I'm sorry. It was fun for all of 3 weeks, then fun again when they did the tournament.

A lot of the time when you try to get a PvE game and try to add PvP later on, its either gonna be amazing or fail hard.

I dont think they will allow people to choose their server early on. My reasoning is so SE can prevent some of the already established linkshells from dominating so early on. Although I would like to be able to pick a server at will it would be really imbalanced.

Maybe they will allow server transfers 6 months into the game or something, but its kind of hard to see that kind of thing happening right away.

No linkshell is going to be able to dominate early on cuz everyone is still going to have to "level up" or whatever it is we'll have to do, not to mention we don't even know what end-game will be like. It's sorta the norm for MMOs now to allow people to choose a server rather than randomizing one. People are going to play with their friends no matter what, and SE won't be able to stop that.

All those 18 people bubbly bernies are definitely the reason why they wouldn't allow you to pick your server so that you can play with friends.
