BG will be there
Can only imagine what patch days will be like if FFXIV and FFXI have em near the same time period.
If FFXI has taught me anything, it's learn to low-man stuff. My 4-man LS is ready to roll, son.
I'm hoping that they name the FFXIV server the same names as FFXI. I'd love to just be able to pick "Phoenix" and assume the majority of my friends would be there.

Not like many other MMOs get it much better. But they need to realize a direct download for patches would save them a lot of hurdle. Plus, the whole file check in POL was ridiculous O.o;
do we even know if FF14 is going to be through POL?
It has not been confirmed as to what system will be used in for 14 but I do know that SE got on to offer games via Steam this year in Feb. I am not sure how Steam works and if it can be used with mmorpg's too.
I am guessing that the new Square Enix Account Management System will be part of 14's membership process though.
EVE is also playable through steam. Actually, it's an advantage to play on steam, when you first start up you get a longer free period and patches get delivered better IMO.
I don't know if it would hinder botting or hacking at all, but Valve has always been quick to stomp on that, which can only be a good thing for an FF game. Or, ideally, botting is made irrelevant by better gameplay design in XIV.
Anyways, on topic, I think starting a linkshell prior to the game coming out, you want people who will be excited to help each other as much as possible, rather than race through content alone. Getting there fast is good, getting your entire shell there together, forming bonds and learning to work with one another, is better.
