My dorm room this semester looks kind of like a glorified jail cell, so I need ideas on what to decorate it with. I can use a printer(black and white only, keep that in mind) for free in the media center at school, so that's helpful.

i was thinking about rasterbating stuff and putting it all over the room, or other cheap things.

When I was in school I did movie posters and stickers and printed out B&W prints from comic books I liked.

i only have my pulp fiction poster behind my TV right now.... i'm thinking about a cutout of pedobear to put on the closet, since i can only print in B&W and the closet itself is brown, haha

When I was in my first dorm I had Science posters and naked bitches on my walls. You cant go wrong with that set up.

Also, you can take a page from the hood playbook and just wallpaper your walls with Jet magazine's beauty of the weeks from the past 10 years lol.

Well like some of the B&W printouts I did were Calvin and Hobbs and Bone and stuff like that, mostly characters that I liked.

And usually in any college town you can find that one headshop with super cheap movie posters for $4-$5 each.

Honestly I like Miz's science and bitches idea better. To take it up a notch, Bitches in Science...

Buy a few mountable dry erase boards and cork boards, arrange them to cover a large section of your wall(s), draw and pin all kinds of shit on there. If you're rocking the painted cinderblocks, it really helps hide the drabness and you can change up the dry erase contents on the regular without too much cost to you. It's also a pretty decent distraction if you ever have any of your friends in your room for a substantial period of time, amusing to let people illustrate when you guys have been drinking, etc. Had one friend who did this and her setup was pretty pimp. I think she said she spent about $75 total on everything, including markers.

Keep in mind I'm a girl but this is how I decorated my dorm:

I'm getting cheap curtains (probably make 'em myself w/ cloth and a $3 wal-mart curtain rod), I have a couple of $10 lamps to light the room at night (give it more of a comfortable glow).

I took white printer paper last year and colored it (yay $1 coloring pencils!) and made origami animals and had myself a little paper "farm" on my wall. I also hung paper cranes from the ceiling (tape + string I found ftw).

For the walls, I printed out lolcats. My college does color printing for $0.25/page so I printed off a few pages of lolcats and sticky-tacked 'em to the walls. Black and white works too. I had a few of those. Guys could print out cars or sexy chicks or something. Or hell, your favorite FFXI screenshot XD

Sometimes your department will print out stuff that is fun for people of your major. For example, my department printed out colorful periodic tables, so I stuck some of those on the wall.

Bed sheets make a difference; don't get plain white or beige. Get some cheap bed sheets that have a little life to them - bright blue, lines, anything that's not plain.

Something I've seen a lot of guys do is put their favorite comics on the walls/door. I've also seen cheap movie posters, video game posters, etc.(a local poster business comes every year and has a sale on campus).

Cheap rugs from yard sales and maybe goodwill can definitely change a room. A bare floor is also not very fun to walk on.
A lot of my friends find cheap area rugs and throw them on the floor. The upside is, the room looks a lot more comfortable. The downside? You have to clean the rug. D:

Back in the Army, which our rooms were alot like college dorms, we used colored sheets stretched tight over the walls. I did red and black alternating. Then I went to spencers gifts (dont know if you have that) and did glow in the dark stars/solar stuff and had them all over them.

I got the arch thing with xmas lights from Michales arts and crafts (ac moore, whatever you have) and put it around a free couch I found in the paper - with a leopard sheet over it tucked in.


Then I took pics of friends, etc. and cut out sayings from Maxim, etc. type magazines and taped em to the pics and plastered the wall with them.

Add some blacklights and replace light bulbs with red/blue, etc. bulbs from walmart and you have a fucking awesome fung sheui (sp) going on.

I had something similar only it was a massive starchart of the Wing Commander universe with quotes from Maniac, Hobbes, and Tolwyn on it. I wish I still had it.

Don't know your income requirements but at fabric stores you can go to the budget sections and get cloth by the yard. (colored sheets work too if you hide the seams). Cloth can create an illusion of depth and space and divide room space.

You can hang this cloth over your closet doors like curtains to stop the brown factor. If you want to use cloth, you can create little fake pleats or gathers for depth. You do this by gathering little bunches of the top edge of the cloth every 4 inches or so and pinning those bunches down to the wall above the closet frame. If you cannot put too many pins in the wall, hang two pins and use a rope or cord to string it in between the pins. If you have a closet door not sliders, just use a cord so you can slide it open like a curtain to get the door open.

Some stores throw away display posters or cardboard figures for game/movie advertisements. They look pretty cool for posters if used right.

My first year dorm was exactly like you described. It was cement gray on all 4 walls and ceilings and floors. Luckily my university offered a poster fair early on in the semester and had everything from porno to bands to sci fi. I bought about 4-5 band and movie posters and put them over the walls.

I also used some of my own furniture to spruce up the place, and it made it not seem so bad. Another thing you can do is get some clothes from your university and hand them up on the walls. Kinda tacky but its something.

Get a roll of butcher paper, lay down a few layers with painters tape, buy some cheap buckets of tempura paint, and have at it. Bitches dig uniqueness. It's fun to do when you're drunk also.

And yeah, a couple posters never hurt anyone.

So much cliche stuff, but a lot of really good ideas so far.

Be original, carpet up the walls. Go get some sample sheets from stores and take them home, but make sure you get a lot of samples. Since your walls are 16" concrete cinders, you'll probably want some heavy duty mounting tape (since these are like 1' samples you don't have to worry about them falling down, but you'll need a lot of tape). You can mix it up all you want! Plus, when you are drunk, you won't get nearly as hurt when you start running into your walls.

When you need to clean them, your friends will walk in and will laugh at the spectacle of you using a vacuum cleaner.
