There's only one way to solve this.
Battle Royal. I'm guessing this hits page 27 before someone locks it down.
Why do people treat science as if it was a belief system? It's a systematic way for explaining how things work or their origin. You can't believe what science states like religion does. Religion is based on faith which doesn't exist in the realm of science. Furthermore, why do people think that science has TOTALLY explained the origin of the universe? That concept is still a theory, not law.
I find it odd that science and religion are always going head to head when they are totally unrelated. Science cannot be used to define religion and vice versa.
Explain in detail please. Be as technical as you need to be, no need for layman's terms on this one lol. This is right in my wheelhouse so have at it.
Tell us what concepts are theory and not law? Please cite several examples, I want to remove all chance of dancing around and skirting my questions. I'm all ears.![]()
And you know whats funny? As I wait for you to tell me what theories we are messing up on and what isn't factual I am willing to bet we have more inclination to believe our theories than you can for your "water into wine" and your "bread and fish" magically falling from the sky.
But I eagerly await your response to my previous post with bated breath.
I think if you have a strong opinion about religion- IE that you are a fist pumping evangelist- then your feelings are based on fear. I think that if you're a fist pumping atheist- if you are one of those people that gets their jollies about being anti-evangelical...going around telling everyone their religion is a fraud or that they are weak for needing it...then you're living in fear as well.
Basically, I don't think anyone can be in either extreme rationally. You can be religious and be rational, and you can be atheist and be rational, but if you can't understand and appreciate the basics of both sides then you probably aren't. You were raised to be religious and fearful or you had some kind of experience that made you opposed to it...either way it's not a good way to form your philosophical beliefs.
What amuses me is that the fist pumping atheist is basically exactly the same as the thing he hates most- the fist pumping evangelical/zealot/religious person. They both made an emotional decision, neither is capable or willing to make efforts to understand or appreciate the other's beliefs, and they are both intent on trying to convert others or at the very least tell as many as they can about how they are wrong with smug self righteousness.
The Big Bang theory gives suggestion about how the universe came into existence.
Is the Big Bang theory cnsidered fact or is considered a -possible- explanation? Then there is string theory which rejects the bang theory.
Science has been used to try and explain creation of the universe in theory. Has the science produce 100% proof of how the universe came into existence?
That is a half-truth.
The big bang explains how the universe came into the existence it holds today. It is a theory explaining the ever-expansion and outward movement from what would be known as a central point that we can observe facts pointing to this today.
It however does not explain where the matter that could have caused the big bang came from. So it is not a true explanation for what started it all, only what put what was already in existence into motion.
Edit: This is one of the largest issues with Science and Religion. Science says "we don't know all the answers but we are working on trying to learn them" and religion says "We already know all the answers (i.e. God did it)".
What I find interesting about Big Bang is what could have caused the initial conditions to start the expansion or simply what was before that. If nothing else, it raises an eyebrow from those who reject organized religion but think that a supreme being could possibly exist... Sucks not knowing everything.
Also, that is why I think that science and religion should never be mixed. The two are vastly alien concepts in relation to each other.
No.
1. String theory doesnt "discount the Big Bang".
2. There are PLETHORA of plausible theories about the cause of the big bang, all of them based on models that fit into our current observations. None of them requiring magic.
3. You didnt answer Miz's questions even a little. You basically just said "lol what was before the big bang, oh you dont know for sure? HAHA GOT YOU!!".
Which is a better approach for a rational animal hagun:
a. Look at the evidence and select possible theories based on what holds true in peer reviewed, observable mechanics.
b. Say a magic creature did everything you dont understand.
You are selecting b, and laughing at the people that are trying to give you the plausible answer. It's really quite silly. And you're right, science and religion cant be mixed, they are by definition the antithesis of each other.
lol this thread is way more fun than i expected and i go with brill on this: battle royal! there is no other way to determine which religion deservers more credit and even the non-believers will be grasp the concept of a 9mm bullet between the eyes. pew pew.
I really don't know what Miz asks. I observe that the Big Bang explains the universe's initial conditions but doesn't explain everything. Not only that, there are a tons of holes in the Big Bang model.
Also, has science been able to explain the instant before the Big Bang yet? No. Not yet.
You don't want to have this discussion with Miz. >.>

I think when you have one side whose constituents burn people alive and load planes full of explosives and crash them into ships, you might be able to hash out a pretty clear cut moral high ground. Although a case could be mad for the USSR being bad guys, but we just put them on hold and hated them after the craziness.
Hm. There is no Taoism on the list, I guess I'll pick Buddhism, since its borderline to it.
Though I think most people are interpretating it wrong. I did say Buddhism isn't really a religion but more of a teaching. Especially from a Daoist stand point. Besides, there is no such thing as "god" in Buddhism/Taoism. And no, Budda isn't a god. Budda is a real person who achieved enlightenment and gained awareness through ji, so we believed. I think this thread is more tailored towards western believes.
