Islam believes in everything that the Jews and Christians believe, with the exception that Christ was just another prophet and that the true prophet is that M-guy (whom I will not name since it may offend Muslims). I believe what Jews and Muslims have in common is that both do not believe the messiah has arrived... but Jews and Muslims differ in their practices and belief structures... as well as the stories told in both holy books.

Or is it only okay for people to mix science and religion, so long as they aren't Christian?

True, progressive, educated Catholics do not take the old testament stories for anything but allegorical representations of popular urban stories of the time.

Everyone else in the Christian world literally believes these stories took place. I do not. I was raised Catholic, and yet I still struggle with really believing that Christ and God are so loving if they intentionally want people to suffer for not believing. If they wanted people to believe using their own free will, they wouldn't do so many disgusting things to people for choosing not to believe.
I think this is the problem with western believes. The entire idea of heaven and hell, the choice and be judged.

Firas, check a couple pages back, I sourced no less that 5 scientific contradictions in the Quran.

Stop pretending Islam is any more scientific than Christianity. Both of your religions have destroyed countless scientific progress and knowledge in your quest for dominance.
you can find a community that still believes that the earth is flat; and they go on and on of how logical it is (thanks to mini for referring that to us). your websites dont mean shit. sorry.
i can pull out thousands of websites written by "scientists" about laughable shit, does not prove shit. refer to proper documentations and links then we'll talk.

    again, christianity.

    and again christianity.

when there is a revelation talking about facts, then there is some logic.
and about faith, yes i agree with you. faith is very important, but thats the difference between Islam and Christianity. Christianity has faith only, Islam has faith and science.
I guess all those times I was thought to use the mental capacity God gave me to learn science was a perversion of my religion then?

Depends. There are some that believe in absolute, word for word, literal interpretation of the Bible. There are others that believe some parts of the Bible are myths. Most of Genesis falls into this category. The reasoning behind it is that Moses wrote the first five books in the Bible and considering the only history he was really around for was Exodus forward, the book of Genesis is likely oral tradition that was written down for the first time.

I think what you said here is kind of funny. What is "proper documentations"? Of course you need the proof but how do you know it without seeing it yourself? Just like bibles and "holy books". After all, wasn't it written by another person too? A human being.

The links I posted compared passages in the Quran to scientific papers, the "proper" documents.

Just shows you didnt even read them, because you are afraid of being wrong. To bad, I would think someone with that much faith wouldnt be scared of the evidence.

And Efluo, science didnt 'use' those destructive weapons, man did. Religion didnt create weapons, it motivated use of them. Just because religion didnt make the spear, doesnt mean many people didnt die in the name of religion at the tip of a spear. Just because science facilitated the atom bomb, doesnt mean we used the bomb due to the scientific method.

    hi
Thanks Plow, a 4 year old can cut three lines from 10 posts and create his own context out of it. Watching you argue is like watching an Andy Dick cameo - funny only because it's so painful and awkward and the place pity should be coming from is replaced by a shopping cart of Summer's Eve.

But I'll keep trolling you so you keep running back to the computer waiting to defend yourself.

I have to be honest. This thread is getting to the point of just being fucking stupid. I'm all for religious debate but when it degrades to the point where it's just Neo, Firas, and few others going back and forth with "Well you didn't read it" "No YOU didn't read it" it's fucking dumb. Religion is about faith. Either you have it or you don't. No true religion is meant to be crammed down someone else's throat. And so this thread goes the way of every other religion thread ever posted here. Inevitably, into the shitter of circular repetitive posts.

And electricity and vaccines and the entire concept of farming/domestication. You can live perfectly fine without religion. Without science, you're a hunter-gatherer with a life expectancy of 17.

You just love the religion motivated man, blah blah... I'm sure WW1 and WW2 were all motivated by religion, and use of those weapons was given to whomever as a message from God. Get over yourself son.

I'm sure cavemen used religion to design spears and such so they could over throw the Neanderthals and start the path of their God....

i almost thought you were smart, now I know your just an egomanical idiot.

The Atom bomb was designed to end a War.. think it work, and it damn sure wasn't in the name of God...

Assuming you didn't die in childbirth, in your first few years, or lived and were killed by your parents for being unfit anyways.

Most of us wouldn't make the cut.

I would argue that faith and religion are two completely separate things and both are possible without each other.

This is one of the reasons why I feel that organized religion has outlived its purpose and we can move beyond it now regardless of your beliefs.

Ok, time for me to talk about my stance on religion a bit further.

I do not care about any religion unless it affects me personally. At this point in my life that would be Christianity only. If you are anything else I don't care what you do or think, until the time that your particular beliefs start causing troubles for me personally.

I am Atheist and I care about religion because:
It opposes it's beliefs on me in the form of laws. Such as "Blue Laws" which dictate what I can and can't do on certain days of the week, and the ever going fight over abortion. The battle for homosexual equality in the U.S. is split due to religion whether you want to admit it or not. Religious institutions are tax exempt even though they make tons of money. I live in New York City and in Manhattan there are churches on some of the most expensive realistate in the world, surrounded by golden statues. This tax-exempt status only puts a larger burden on everyone else.

The Pledge of Allegiance was created in the 1800's and started to be said in schools in the 1920's. It never had any references to god until 1954 when "Under God" was added. Also The American currency had "In god we trust" added in 1957 due to religious pressures. So much for separation of church and state.

I also am worried about religion because it has a heavy push to stop funding in science and technology. One example is stem cell research, which is one of the most promising medical fields known to us today. Catholics have also been pushing to prohibit condom usage, in a world where AIDs is on the rise. Increasing the spread of disease. It also pushes for abstinence only education which contributes to the spread of disease and raised level of teen pregnancy.

Religion also tries to put creation in schools alongside evolution. Creation is not a Scientifically accredited study and should not be in Science class just as it would not be in math class.

The Boy Scouts confuses me because it is a tax pay paid organization which will not allow an atheist child to join (Christian onry). Also laws still on the books so that in North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Maryland an athiest cannot hold a public office.

There are plenty more reasons, but these are some of the biggest issues on why I care what imaginary friend you have.

Islam do not believe "Everything" jews and christians do.

some of the stories are yes repeated in the Quran. But there are great differences, don't forget the bible and torat has been altered by man.

speaking of alterations, my turn being curious about you christians.

now we can all agree about the fact that - the bible has 4 versions, 4 bibles sort to say. how do you know which one is the word of God? or do you really believe that god revealed 4 versions of his words?
